Tear Stains

Shane, my chihuahua, has always had a really bad problem with tearing.  sometimes it's so bad that he'll shake his head and the tears will splash on me or you can take your finger and wipe the area and just get a puddle.  miya has i guess you could say the opposite problem where she has no tearing or anything, but she gets eye boogies all the time, several times a day i have to wipe them off.  i really don't think it's the food, possibly just his breed.  is this common in chi's?

I probably won't be much help but thought this might be interesting.  My daughter has a brown lab mix and a blond cocker spaniel that were raised together from puppyhood.  The lab mix is the Alpha and has always licked clean around the cocker's ears and eyes.  Cockers have tear stains also sometimes and he has NONE, never has.  They also tend to have ear infections and he has never had one.  I think this might be due to being cleaned on a daily (somes several times a day) basis by his buddy.  Has anyone else out there seen this phenomenon?  It is quite amazing.

yeah, jason licks mocas eyes all the time and i let him. she used to have tears and booger under her eyes all the time, but now that jason started licking his eyes, she's fine, and it's HIM that i have to worry about only (she won't lick him back [;)]). with her ears its a different thing though. he would always lick her ears and she would still get ear infections. in fact i had to teach him not to lick them, because the outer part of her ears would just get sore on top of everything else..
yeah, it really has nothing to do with the original post, just thought it was funny, that someone else experienced the same thing..

How funny.  It is nice to know my daughter's two dogs are just weird.
