    Mucus after urining

It seems like one thing after another.

When we took Freida in for her check up, I told the vet about mucus that I see sometimes hanging from behind her after she goes potty (#!). Not everytime.  I gave them a urine sample and they came back and told me she had an over growth of baterica, but not to worry about it - the vet told me it would take care of itself in time.

A week an a half later my DH asks me what are we doing about the issue with Freida and potty, I told him and he didn't like the answer.  He told me she is cleaning herself alot and her jaw is quivering afterwards.  So he called the vet today, they now gave us a cream to put in her vagina and rub on her in the area.

She is spayed.  So has anyone heard of this.  I don't think she is going to like us putting the cream in or on.  (they did tell me if it was to hard to do, I could get oral pills - why not give them to me right away!)

And would it clear up on its own, or get worse?

Mucus is usually the body's way of 'protecting' itself from inflammation or irritation. And to be honest I don't like the "it will rectify itself" answer either. fwiw - there is a difference between them taking a urine sample that is "caught" and dipping a strip in it and saying "infection" or not ... and then maybe them looking at it under a mciroscope??? If so WHY did they say that?? I always prefer if they take a sample to send it in to the lab and get a urinalysis done -- I want to know if there is bacteria FOR SURE, and if there are crystals, casts or other "things". I'd rather spend the extra $20 and get the urinalysis. And if it's at all iffy, and I'm not 100% totally and completely sure that the medicine fixed it, let's do a culture and sensitivity so we **KNOW** what bacteria it was and what will treat it. bottom line -- a "bacteria overgrowth" of what?? some bacteria (like staph) might be nothing -- something else might be ... MORE. .. Was she just recently spayed?? That could put a whole different spiin on it.
