No more allergy shots for Jessie!

After eight years of shots she's starting sublingual immunotherapy. She gets one drop of serum under her tongue twice a day. The company that makes the serum she was injected with has recently developed sublingual drops for dogs. I knew about the pilot program they had last summer and was hoping it would be successful. Fortunately, it went very well and although she was very good about getting the shots it's wonderful that she won't have to endure them anymore; RAH!!!

So it's still the same as the shot, just delivered differently?  And it's something you can administer at home?? That's great.

Yes, and the shots can be done at home too. I tried to do them for several weeks but I was too slow at putting the needle through her skin, so it was painful for her. Fortunately, my vet does the shots for clients who aren't willing to do the shots themselves. They kept the serum at the clinic and when it was time for a shot I called to let them know I was bringing Jessie in. The techs would do the shot so quickly that Jessie rarely felt it, and she always got a treat right afterwards. This will be more convenient for me and pain free for her.

    That absolutely rocks.

But don't do yourself too 'down'.  A whole lot of times it's the needle.  The needle is supposed to be sharp every time, but I get blood therapy from my homeopath and trust me -- some needles are sharp and some either have a wee burr at the end or aren't as sharp.  Trust me -- there is a REASON why nurses practice on oranges and grapefruit before they give a shot to a human LOL

Wow Janice - what an exciting breakthrough. Yay for Jessie and yay for all the other dogs and owners who'll be able to take advantage of this. Yes

Wow, that's cool.  I'm glad to know that something sub-lingual can be administered.  I can't imagine I'd ever be able to successfully manage a needle if I had to give a pet shots.  This is a much easier (and less uncomfortable) option, that's for sure!
