Kim: You should not give her any food you're eating; she needs a low fat, very bland diet. IBD dogs are very sensitive to any changes in their diet; even a small amount of a new food can make them vomit or have bloody diarrhea. IBD is terrible to deal with and it usually takes trial and error to see what your dog can tolerate. You should only feed her the diet your vet has prescribed; giving her other food can upset her GI tract, which is what has been happening when you offer her your food. It's probably safe to add some defatted broth to her food to entice her to eat. I belong to a yahoo group for owners of dogs with pancreatitis, and many of the dogs also suffer from IBD. If you post on that forum, you should get some good advice from people who have experience with this disease. Here's a link to the group;
dogpancreatitis : dog and pancreatitis
I'll be sending your sweet girl healing thoughts. Jessie has pancreatitis and last February, I was changing her to a low fat cooked diet formulated by a canine nutritionist. Jessie had a severe flare up of pancreatitis and had to be hospitalized. The internist said there was something in the new diet that she couldn't tolerate, and that caused the flare up. The diet was eggs and rice, with supplements to balance it. I'm telling you this to show how sensitive these dogs can be; ((((( hugs )))))
