Double Ear Infection

    Double Ear Infection

Last Tuesday Honey started tilting her head to the left, and shaking it.  Even tho her ear was not red and had no smell, no gunk, I was sure it was ear infection.  Got her to the vet the next day, sure enough, not just left ear but also right ear was infected.  He gave her an antibiotic injection and drops to put in her ears twice a day for a few days.  Within 24 hours she was no longer tilting or shaking her head.

It had been years since she had an ear infection.  Had not had one since I switched her to grainless food.  But then she had that problme with to much protien in her urine and blood and was put on Science Diet KD.  It cleared up but I decided to mis half and half--the KD and grainless to keep her protien level down.  Now I have decided to jsut go back to grainless.  This may not have been the cause, but what the heck, prefer her on grainless anyway.

Ear infections can be deceptively hard to diagnose -- and a bacteria infection will show up different than a yeast ear infection.    And grains or any allergies can affect the ears big time.

Good call Sandra!!  Glad Honey is feeling better.

Good Dog Mom on the job, catching the "signs" and getting in to the vet.  Feel better, Honey!

Willy was shaking his head the other day, I thought ear infection too.  Then I realized we had JUST come back from a walk at the farm.  Lifted his ear and yup, dead bug, ha ha haaaa.

May ALL our problems be so easily solved!

A yeast infection usually produces dark colored debris in the ears, and a bacterial infection has a lighter colored discharge. Any food allergy can cause ear infections; Jessie gets them if she eats chicken. I'm not sure about Texas, but fall is a bad time for allergies in our area and Jessie gets antihistamines this time of year. Give Honey some belly rubs for me.
