Parvo

    Parvo

A girl in Ohio just lost 4 Great Danes from Sat. thru this morning..to Parvo and they were all vaccinated. They were not new borns, nor were they litter mates...in fact I believe the one was already 9 months old. She has a few more at home and a couple are sick, Besides her mom that lives about 20 minutes away has a couple and they are always together.  They think its a different strain than what we are used to, a more aggresive strain, strain F,  they put up this link http://www.filadog.com/html%20docs/Your%20New%20Puppy/Medical/important__parvo_information__w.htm

Its quite nerve wracking living in Ohio here...knowing this. I think Gibby will not be making trips to day care at Camp Bow Wow anytime soon.

New strains happen -- Ultimately I think they got input from Auburn Vet School and confirmed it was a new strain.  At that time Auburn was doing some studies on new methods to treat Parvo.

    Heinous disease --

She should look into Parvaid and this Parvo treatment:

No, I don't get a kick-back for suggesting Parvaid.    However, I did actually suggest it to a woman that had a pup with Parvo and who couldn't afford vet care.  She thought the pup was at death's door, but there was a dramatic change within 24-hours of giving Parvaid.  The pup did recover.

Dyan, if you google F strain parvo virus you'll see hits going all the way back to 2006.  I'd like to see something more than info from breed forums or blogs before I start to panic.

Loosing 4 Great Danes from Sat. until this morning ( and oh gosh...I have been gone all day and not back there to see...sure hope she didn't loose another one because after she lost the first 3, two more became sick and one of them died between last night and early this morning ) in a city but about 20 minutes away from me with her mother living another 20 minutes from me on the opposite direction.... is enough to make me start to panic.   Along with the fact that my friend that used to be a client at the clinic I worked at that I befriended because she owns 5 Danes....knows the girl and her mother personally....the mom lives in Vivians city.  Yeah....thats enough for me to panic...big time.  But that article going back to 2006 doesn't mean that its not what they have.....it only means that is when they discovered it and luckily we haven't seen it.

Janet..she has prevacid ordered from Sat, but it won't get here until Tues. Someone else suggested Theraflu also.

She can call the Parvaid folks at 951-674-0921 for an emergency herbal tea receipe to use until her Parvaid arrives.

    ***Edited to correct phone number.

Prevacid is not the same thing as Parvaid!  I thought "Prevacid" was just a typo and now I realize that it is a different product.

I don't blame you for your concern. Because you work in a vet clinic it does make it easier for you to carry micro-organisms on your clothes. My good friend is a vet tech and she takes her clothes and shoes off in the garage then showers before greeting her own animals.I would skip those daycare visits if I were in your shoes too.

Thank you Janet....and it IS Parvaid that she has ordered, actually because of the way this forum works ( with not being able to see the other posts once you get to the REPLY page, it was easier for me to put this on the bottom and go searching for how to spell Parvaid for sure ( since it not a product I have even heard about until this situation ) and lo and behold I picked a page with the wrong product.  I didn't think that sounded correct but just figured I was thinking wrong. Sorry...but it is Parvaid that eveyone told her to get and she did order it.   Thanks again.

I do not work in a vet clinic anymore, not worried about bringing home anything.....just have a Great Dane myself and knowing how fast these dogs are going down is just plain scary.

Did she try using their emergency herbal tea receipe?  If so, did it help at all?

I honestly don't know..I keep trying to email her but she hasn't answered. My friend Vivian that knows her and her Mom said she is just soooo tired...staying up all night trying to keep them hydrated...she has more pups that she is also trying to keep from getting sick along with the sick ones. I haven't been around all day so I don't know if anyone heard from her or not..but I will try to find out and let you know Janet.
