sandy eyes after a beach trip

Poor Bugsy seems to have sand or other junk in his eyes after our beach trip - he has such short hair and eyelashes that he has no protection.

I have tried to just wipe the area clean several times a day, any other suggestions to help?

I'd try rinsing with a saline solution several times a day.  He may need to see the vet if it isn't better very soon.

Similisan "Irritated Eye" Drops.  Easily found at Walgreen, CVS, Whole Foods, etc...

Any preservative free artificial tears should help.  I like Genteal, but a store brand will also fill the bill.

Sad Came home and his eyes were horrible.

I bought saline solution and squirted some in his eyes and will do that again later, as well as tomorrow morning. If no progress I'll take him to the vet.

He has always had slightly gunky eyes due to allergies but this is a whole different level

Yeah, we've had our share of eye issues here.  I'm thinking the sand may have scratched the cornea.  I'd probably get him to the vet tomorrow for something stronger than just artificial tears.  Poor guy.

I sure hope not! Don't you think he'd be bothered by that though? He isn't showing any additional attention to his eyes.

I hope not as well---perhaps he just has sand caught up in his eyelid, but the saline rinse should help flush that out....hmmm...lets hope for the best. My weirdos have never really bothered their eyes, then all of the sudden, I notice red, cloudy eyes---both have had mildly scratched corneas at one time or another---they love to get their noses deep into the brush--always an adventure.

Just spoke to my vet who feels like he probably just has a mucus issue in the tear duct area (long explanation but they have two layers there) The fact that he isn't bothered by them at all, points to it NOT being anything significant.

Said to keep washing them and if its no better or gets worse then come in

Went to the vet, got some drops for conjunctivitis (neo-poly-dex) and we have improvement :)

Flushed eyes using a syringe and saline water. After that, put some Neosporin eye ointment inside the lower eye lid. hopefully it'll clear. Roux had the biggest case of eye boogers and sand in eyes after the beach.
