    CPV - Canine Papilloma Virus

    Hi all,

My Staff has a bad case of CPV does anyone know of some good treatments ?

When i took him to the vet they said they should fall off on there own within a few months.

6 months later and it has just gone crazy all over his lower jaw and starting to move onto his tongue.

L-Lysine seems to help a whole lot --

and homeopathic thuja (crush the tiny pills in a folded piece of paper and pour in the dog's mouth. NOT with food, not anytime near food - it needs to absorb in the mouth) -- give 3-4 little pellets three times a day for 3-4 days and then stop.

Are you supplementing with Omega 3's ??  fish body oil -- like giving a sardine or two once a day works really well and the dogs love it.

It's an immune problem -- I'd take a step back and look at the dog's overall health -- could you possibly have another problem -- like a deep ear infection or something that isn't showing that could be continuing to keep the immune system depressed?

yeah I got him on multi vitamins and fish oil.

L-Lysine and homeopathic thuja where would i get these from ?

and other than's his warts he is fine( his energy levels are good and his coat is nice and shiny )

    thanks for your help Smile

Both are heatlh store items -- L-Lysine is a supplement and thuja is going to be in the homeopathics (typically Boiron is the mfg -- it's a little plastic display of rows of little blue tubes).

Those tubes are impossible to get into -- they're made for a human to take the clear top off and then you old the top in your teeth and twist so the pellets fall under your tongue.

Well nice -- how to get them out for a dog??

About  3/4" down from the top, you'll feel a seam below that collar -- score with a knife so you can twist that whole top assembly off carefully (those pills bounce freaking forever if you drop them!!  Learn from my error! LOL)

Use a tweezer to pull them out if it's easier.  But fold a piece of paper in quarters -- then you can smack it lightly with a small hammer or the edge of something hard and crack those tiny pills into dust.

Homeoapthics are sweet -- literally they are sugar based -- moisten the tip of your finger the first time and put a dab on their tongue - it is yummy.  My dogs will not only lick up the dust - they've actually learned to CHEW the little pellets cos they are YUM.

Youjust want it to hit the gum or under the tongue if possible - or at least the tongue.  (look in the mirror and stick your tongue out -- look UNDER and see all those zillion blood vessels -- homeopathics absorb into the bloodstream there).

Don't put them in food -- they gotta absorb in the mouth.
