My Australian Shepard mix has a swollen toe and the vet is a little puzzled by it. She is now in a cone and on meds, not lovin the cone. I saw a post that was 2 yrs ago ( looks about the same ) but no one had any kind of answer. It's swollen to the same degree all the way around so vet doesn't believe it to be a tumor. It has been about a week now and the swelling has gone down a little but still there. Could it be just from to much fun once?
My dog had something very like that -- and it *was* a tumor. The toe doesn't have to be swollen in a particular part. IN fact Muffin's almost looked like it had a bit of yeast around the nail (which was a red herring for the longest time and was NOT germaine).
Ask your vet to aspirate it. That's how they FINALLY diagnosed Muffin's as mast cell cancer. Not to micromanage -- but if your vet does aspirate, ask him to give him a max dose of Benedryl (mast cell is a histamine tumor)
