    Nose flesh peeling off

Hello all, first post in the medical forum...

Just noticed a couple seconds ago that the black wet nose flesh on top of Wesker's nose has flaked off a bit, revealing different color skin underneath... its about half a centimeter across, on the bridge of his nose. Is this something I should be worried about?

    Thanks.

Owie!  Did he scrape it somehow?  I'm not sure what to say.  It's hard to use any topicals cause he'll likely lick everything you put on.  Some vitamin E gell caps might help aid the healing process.  Poke a hole in the cap and squeez on the finger then rub in.

If it's not due to a scrape then perhaps a vet visit may be in order.

Good luck.  I'm sure others will know more than I.

Thanks... hope so. It may be from a scratch or something, I just don't know. :/

My corgi/sheltie mix, Foxy the MOstlie Sheltie used to do that EVERY year just about April/May.  Something would hide out in my laundry building (I'm in Florida) and he would stick that Mostlie Sheltie pointy noise in there every single year.  I never found out what it was but it *was* exactly what you describe and it was always from shoving his nose in some itty bitty place so he could sniff something better!

I used to put Vit E oil on it just as Johnny describes.  Nobuddy else used to do it -- *just* the Fox.  Never figured out what it was but HE felt compelled to keep track of it!! LOL

Maybe its a Sheltie thing. Wesker has some very Sheltie-like qualities, apparently.

Could be nasal solar dermatitis, also known as "Collie nose".

As the article says, you do have to make sure it's not something more serious like discoid lupus.  But I think that's relatively rare.

Gonna say more of a "curious dog" thing probably -- it always just cracked me up because of all my dogs the ONLY one who could have gotten his nose *into* wherever-the-heck he put it was Foxy.  Nobuddy else had a noise that pointy.  And it was obviously a tight fit for him -- but whatever that "thing" was that got in annually it was apparently worth it.  The first year I was worried sick (about all of the above) then it went away as suddenly as it came and I realized it had to be some sort of "crittur search" (which at our house is always spelled c-r-i-t-t-u-r).  And I never did get it figured out in all his 19 years.
