Hi all, I'm new here, and have a female, 4.5 yr old Sheltie who has been battling AIHA since about Halloween 2010. She is now on Prednisone (5 mg twice daily), Aziothiprene (1/2 tab. once daily) and Denamarin. Her PCV has climbed from about 10 (she had blood given shortly after) to 34 where it is now. We are very excited about her progress, but it still looks as though she is not regenerating. We are getting the results re-sent to be sure due to the weird number that came back, or maybe I was interpreting it wrong.
My question for you all is, I saw today that once before Taylor's reticulocyte count was 53,000, which I know is not very good, but most recently it said 4,400. I know there are many types of retic. results. Am I comparing two different results? Does this seem correct with a PCV of 34? We are getting those results re-sent to be sure. We are also considering supplementing her thyroid as one method to try to boost the regenerating. Oh and she also gets Pet Tinic (1/2 small syringe twice daily) to help with the iron and such.
Do you all think certain breeds are more at risk for this tricky illness? Does anyone have a dog with a similar history (PCV is climbing but it dosen't seem like the RBC are regenerating themselves??)
Any feedback is much appreciated, thanks Callie for your help via email beforehand, and well wishes to all doggies going through this trying illness. Hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel for us all.
