    Honey is Injured

Late yesterday afternoon we were finishing up our decorating for Christmas and Honey got a case of the zoomies.  you would think that at 9 years old she would not act like she was 9 months old  but she does.

A short time later i saw she was limping pretty badly on her left front leg and often holindg her paw up while walking and always while standing.  our first thought wa that one of us had dropped a push pin while putting up greenery and she had stepped on it.  but close exam of her foot could find notake or damaged pad, etc.  i then decided she must have pulled or strained something while zooming around, spinning and twirling.

Was no better this morning so took her to see Rickey.  Sure enough it was her shoulder.  She is such a good girl and while he manipulaed her leg and shoulder she just sat there and would stiffen up when it really hurt , but didn't try to jerk away from him----she adores him.

Anyway, he put her on previcox for 2 weeks and said to keep her from running, jumping, etc for the 2 weeks.  what a joke--she was running this morning, just limping or holding that leg up.

Oh no Honey girl.  I'm acutely aware of having to stay off your feet, LOL !!  Follow the doc's orders and take it easy !!

he put her on previcox for 2 weeks

    Sandra –

Give her milk thistle – Previcox can be super hard on the liver and milk thistle will protect her liver. Give her at least two capsules 2 or 3 times a day until a month after she’s OFF the Previcox. It will actually help the Previcox to work *better* because milk thistle helps the liver function better while she’s on it.

You can get milk thistle at a health store – but if you want to send me your snail mail address I can send you some if you can’t get out easily.

Hylands Calms Forte may help get her to be a bit more sedentary. It’s not habit-forming and it’s available in most any health store.

Sending Feel Better Soon vibes your way. Honey, when you get older, you have to warm-up before doing zoomies.

`Honey is doing great and no longer walks or stand with paw up.  She only limps from time to time when walking.

Yes Callie, she is on milk thistle.  I donot like NSAIDs, but it was clear she had to have something.  I take milk thistle aslo with my pike of meds i have to take every day.

So glad that Honey is doing better. I would have given her at least a few more days of rest before trying Previcox. I know it's a natural reaction to want to stop the pain quickly, but honestly, rest is the best thing for a strained muscle, as I've learned with Jessie. She hurt her side once climbing up a steep river bank, and has strained her shoulder a few times. Anyway, give your golden girl some belly rubs for me.

I don't know how to write big or I would!  Glad Honey's is feeling better!  I get nervous that Willow is going to do something like this when she zooms.

HONEY IS DOING GREAT AND ONCE AGAIN ACTING LIKE SHE IS A 9 MONTH OLD PUPPY INSTEAD OF A 9 YEAR OLG "OLD TIMER".  WE GOT HER STUFFLESS PORCUPINE FOR CHRISTMAS DNS HE LOVES TOSSING IT, POUNCING ON IT, SHAKING IT, ETC.  I ALMOST DIDN'T GET IT FOR HER--BUT BETTER HER TOSSING IT THAN HER HUGE NYLABONE--ALWAYS SCARED SHE WAS GOING TO BREAK OUT THE GLASS ON THE DOORS ON THE BOTTOM OF OUR ENTERTAIMMENT CENTER, OR WORSE, HIT THE BIG TV SCREEN.

WE BORDED HER WITH OUR VET ON THE 25TH TO GO UP TO AUSTIN FOR FAMILY GET TOGETHER WITH MY 3 BROTHERS & THEIR FAMILIES.  WE DROPPED HER OFF AS SOON AS WE COULD--AT 9:00 THAT MORNING.  HAD THOUGHT ABOUT STAYING IN AUSTIN UNTIL TUESDAY MORNING, BUT CAME ON BACK MONDAY AFTERNOON SO WE COULD GET HER.

WHEN WELDON BROUGHT HER SHE WA JUMPING AND SO EXCITED TO SEE US.  THE RECEPTIONIST SAID "I THINK SHE IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE YOUR WILD CHILD."

THERE IS A  VERY GOOD REPUTABLE BOARDING KENNEL HERE, SURPRISING FOR A SMALL TOWN, BUT WE ALWAYS BORAD OUR DOGS WITH OUR VET---THAT WAY THEY ARE ON THE  PREMISE IF THEY GET SICK OR INJURED SOMEHOW.  I KNOW THEY ARE EXTREMELY WELL CARED FOR THERE, ARE IN A SEPERATE AREA WITH CLIMATE CRONTOLRED BUILDING, CLEAN BLANKETS ON THEIR "BED" EVERY DAY, EXERCISED TWIECE EVERY DAY, PLUS OUTSIDE TRIPS TO GO POTTY.

So glad to hear Honey has recovered and is enjoying her Christmas present and her time at camp (as we call it here at our house). Happy New Year!
