Scratching....

    Scratching....

Maze is chewing her back and tummy a lot. I've been wiping her down with black tea every time she comes in the house. She gets a bath with ultra mild, hypo allergenic baby body wash and a rinse with tea tree oil. It's helped a lot with the chewing on her paws and thighs. But she's focused on the base of her tail and her belly. So bad that she's developed a rash on her tummy..

    Advice?

Cover it!!! Seriously, put some clothes on that dog! If she stops licking, and it starts to get better, she won't end up with a skin infection.

She's wearing a t-shirt when I can't watch her. But it doesn't cover her butt.

Stop at Goodwill or equivalent -- get little boys PJs -- put the bottoms on her with the placket facing up so her tail goes thru it.  Spazzy has a thread right now about this -- you might check it out.

I put some old boxers on her but they're a bit too big. She does look funny thou. I"ll have to see if I can find something around the house that's smaller.

As soon as my neighbor comes back from vacation. She's got them on her camera. Lol! I took pity on her and dug out her rain coat that covers her butt.

Bathing her in NuSal- T shampoo a few times a week would probably be more effective than what you're bathing her in now. You'll have to order it online. Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you're still giving her a home cooked diet, vitamin A and all the b vitamins are very important for skin health, as well as zinc, in the right amounts. I'll be keeping her in my thoughts.

I'm giving her a mix of home cooked and canned right now while I'm researching the different veggies and such. I'll look into that shampoo when I'm finished this job.

Also -- you gotta realize that part of what makes "covering" them help is it has to be relatively close-fitting.  Partly it has to keep the allergens off the dog -- so floppy stuff that doesn't exclude pollen isn't gonna help.  But partly -- especially with a t-shirt -- it's like the same principle as a Thunder-shirt -- part of it is the tension of the fabric that helps keep them calm and less itchy.

Maybe its fleas or ticks of some sort? Do you advantage or frontline or something like that?

You can't put anything topical of that nature on skin *that* sore.  Advantage and Frontline both distribute all over the skin and it would be very painful on those sore areas.  Flea allergy dermatitis starts at the base of the tail and goes p the back - it doesn't start on the belly, etc.

How is the sweet girl doing? We're supposed to have a hard freeze in our area tomorrow night, which helps with seasonal allergies.
