Apollo injured his back-UPDATE!!!!

She thought a possibly neck and/or back strain. He did throw up today some brown-ish bile ( right when we got home from the vets, of course) so when I called to let them know that (and they told me they didn't give him anything except water and I didn't feed him today) and he is walking hunched over again, a vet tech said she thought possibly pancreatitis, but when I got on the phone with our regular vet she said no way. So....still no diagnosis.....and over $700 has been spent..........grrrrrrr.

He's hurting for sure -- can you pick up either some peppermint or wintergreen oil (not food flavoring --but the actual essential oil from a health store) to massage on him?  I'll talk to you on the phone if you want and we'll see if we can locate the problem just from a couple of tricks I know.  I'm leaning more and more to a pinched nerve -- and maybe sciatica.  Walking hunched over??? Yep -- pain.  Palpate the tummy gently -- how 'hard' is is stomach?

Callie- Got your email, I will call you tonight.

Callie, sorry I didn't get a chance to call you last night. My little black cat escaped through a tear in 1 of our screens, she's never ever been outside except for vet visits and that was in a carrier. So, we spent out day/night looking for her. This morning at 5:00am, our neighbor (a nurse getting ready for work) found her in their shed!!! :) Yahooo! But, we're off to our vets in an hour, Apollo threw up 7 times yesterday :( lots of bile, but he pooped normally this morning and his walking (or should I say PRANCING!) was 100% back to normal. I will keep everyone updates.

It seems like he got really bad (I was bawling at the vets because he couldn't even walk), then on the way home recovered- actually, IDK if he really recovered or what, so he's on crate rest until tomorrow morning when I bring him into his regular vets.

That is scary as all hello.  I want to say something that may seem obvious to us, but, KUDOS to you for taking appropriate action - particularly the vet.  I had a heated discussion elsewhere with a woman who let her dog eat a cooked bone, he was sick for a week, and THEN went paralyzed in the back legs.... and still decided to "wait and see".  He's apparently fine now, but the stories have come out about all the horrific things that can happen in the first few hours of a paralysis that could have been mitigated if a person acted promptly to get them to a skilled vet.  So, again, dopey for me to say it, but KUDOS for taking swift action for Apollo.

I'd have been bawling, too.  What a horrible roller coaster.  I'm sending wishes that he feels better and send all kinds of good wishes that his recovery is complete, this problem never returns, and he remains in stellar health forevah!  Love that boy.  ((hugs)) to you.

WOW OH WOW.....we definitely know what happened to Apollo now. This morning at the vets he started getting antsy, like he had to potty. So, a tech took him to the dog run area and he started to poop, very runny....then, he started to really push (I know, yuck) and she noticed something not poop-like so she ran in and got the dr (we were talking to her) and the dr- w/ purple gloves on- slowly pulled out about 4 paper towels, still intact!!!!!! Why did this not show up on the x-ray at the e-vets??? Because they only x-rayed his shoulder/neck area because that dr (a complete idiot now that I look back on it....she thought he even possibly had spinal meningitis even though he had no fever and his blood work was normal) said he had a neck strain. So, my dr didn't even bother to do more x-rays because she thought we were in agreement w/ the e-vet dr that our dog hurt his neck! Just a miscommunication, but still, aggravating! And Apollo not walking and the hunch back are classic signs of abdomen distress...I didn't know that. After all this, I'm glad I brought him to the e-vet, but it was a ton of money and we didn't get any answers. Urgh.

I'm so glad it's resolved with no major damage, other than your bank balance. :(

You know it :) DH and I were talking about the "what if's" in the e-vet waiting area, and I said I would- with NO regrets- hock my engagement ring (worth a very pretty penny ;) ) if it came down to that. And he said I was just saying that because I was all emotional, but you know what, today we figured out what was going on and I *STILL* would hock my ring if it came down to that- without regret!!
