Best flea med?

    • Gold Top Dog

Just got the Comfortis. Bailey hasnt had any flea meds at all this year so far, so Im probably going to give it to him now cause I saw a few on him.

But.. Jack got Frontline applied on the first of the month... is it OK to give him the Comfortis now, or should I wait until the end of the month? I know they work differently, and since Frontline stays on the skin I guess it should be fine... just wanted to check with all you knowledgeable folks Wink

It should be fine - but you may want to call your vet and see what he says about your specific pets Wink

ETA: I'm sure your vet told you this - but I'll reiterate, because it's SO important - Make SURE you give it with a FULL meal. I wrap mine in a piece of cheese, and they get it after dinner.

Am I the only one who Frontline is still working for?  I haven't had any problems with either dog at all, both are on Frontline.  I do use Callie's SSS spray on them (and us!) when we go to the river, just as added protection against ticks, but, really, we haven't had any problems with Frontline.

It is good to hear these opinions on other treatments, though, because ya never know when Frontline might stop working for us.

Most of my clients are having problems with the frontline - but we still have a lot of users because it also protects against ticks, whereas none of the other products we carry do.

I have personally never used it, always advantage, and now comfortis. The advantage is still working just fine for us, and I haven't used anything on the cats all summer, but if I needed to - thats what they'd get. I got the comfortis through our drug rep, so I figured I might as well TRY it since I had it! All our clients LOVE it though.

I didnt exactly get it from the vet... Zip it! But I gave it to Bailey after he had big beef heart for dinner. I gave it to him about an hour ago, & I have been watching him "just incase" and havent seen any side effects so far. He had more fleas than I realized, Im so glad it got here today. I brushed him with a flea comb before I gave it to him and pulled a few off, but I know I missed some so there are plenty for the Comfortis to kill so I can see if it works.

Im not sure if Im going to be able to get anymore after this pack runs out, I dont think my vet sells it. I want to switch vets, but I dont know when that is going to happen... His current vet sells Frontline and Vectra, and Heartguard and Interceptor. When we first started going there they tried to give me Heartguard, I had to ask espescially for Interceptor. Next time we go there I will ask about it and see if they sell it.

Advantage user here, but if they're out of the Advantage I have to get Frontline. Don't like it, its bunk. When I give Toots Advantage I don't even treat the cat. Amazing stuff.

It never quit working for us and we are in a very warm and humid climate, almost year round.  I quit using it because Twister was having a very intense reaction as though it was burning where I applied it.

comfortis is NOT easy to get - even for vets. which is probably why your vet does not carry it. you are supposed to have a very strict client/patient relationship - it's a very closely monitored product. which is a good thing.

Frontline is still working here just fine. *knock on wood*

It all depends on how resistant the fleas in your ara have become TO Frontline.  No it's not stopped working for every one -- mostly just those of us who are in mega flea states/
