Maggie collapsed

Do you have Valley fever in your area? Here it's one of the first things checked when there are unexplained lung things. I think it's mostly a western thing though..

Glad to hear it doesn't appear as serious as you were worried it might be.  But, we will certainly keep sending healing vibes for Maggie until she's back to her old self again.

Just checking in  . . . . . . how's Maggie doing this morning????  Hope she is improving and the cough is not getting any worse.

Maggie seems to be back to her normal self - zoomies, rolling on the floor on her back, and chewing on her brother. Smile

We had a followup vet appointment with our regular vet today and it appears that the vets differ on the cause of the episode on Friday, but with the same result: keep an eye on her and unless it happens again we should be fine.

Our regular vet does worry about a hidden condition (like a tumor on the heart) but even if we did more diagnostics it may not show up and even if it did, there's not much that can be done about it.  Our vet did say that if Maggie didn't have any more episodes in the next 3-4 weeks that it would be unlikely for it to happen again, so we're sighting on that.

Please keep her in your thoughts over the next few weeks if you can.

For those of you interested in the treatment side of things, on Friday Maggie was put on Yunnan PaiYao (chinese herb) for potential bleeding issues, Traumeel for anti-inflammatory help, and GP Recovery (rice glygoprotein based supplement) to support the body under stress.  Saturday she added Clavamox to the list in case of a potential infection.  Starting today, she is going to be weaned off the Yunnan PaiYao and Traumeel since she's doing well now, but we will be adding CoQ10 (100mg/day) to help support the heart just in case.

I wonder why they were thinking bleeding issues?

Good to hear she's getting better!  Sending her some get well vibes and I'll keep her in my prayers and thoughts.

I'm glad she's doing better and will continue to send good vibes that she stays well.

All really good stuff -- Billy and I take Traumeel a lot (it's in the drops Dr. Demers prepares for Billy and I take it for Arthritis) -- it's absolutely awesome stuff.  Co-Q-10 is also VERY helpful -- Billy takes 100 mg twice a day and has for two years now.   It actually helps get oxygen TO the cells.  Really good stuff.

The Yunnan PaiYao was just in case the fluid around the lungs was blood - there was no sign of internal bleeding on labwork, but since she was sending Maggie home to wait for a specialist appointment our vet decided it was better to be safe than sorry. Smile

I am headed out to run some errands and pick up the CoQ10 now!

I'd like to know more about Yunnan PaiYao for the bleeding.  Is that something I can buy at a WholeFoods type store?

I got the capsules directly from my vet - the tech said I could either give it as a capsule or open the capsule over her food.  Opening it was easiest and she has no problem eating it; it smells like dirt to me lol.  There's also a tiny red pill in the packaging used only for massive bleeds (i.e. animal in danger of bleeding out), which I found interesting.

Thank you!  I'm definately going to look into this.  Willow had thrombocytopenia and this might be something that would be a really good thing for me to have on hand.
