    Clipper for Willow-please advise

What kind of clipper should I get for Willow?  I've been wanting to get one for her for awhile now but I hesitate because I just don't know what would be enough power for her, what size, etc.  I just look at them and think that she might just have way too much fur for it to get thru.

Today, I saw the Conair, Canine FX at Pet Supplies.  And, I almost bought it.

What do you guys suggest?  What should I be looking for when I'm deciding on a clipper for her.  I want something that will especially thin down the back end and mane.

Lori, I bought the Andis AGC 2 speed clippers last year and am pleased with them so far!  Only problem I've hadso far is they are starting to heat up on me more frequently than when they were new.  I just replaced the blade drive so I'll see if that helps.

I wanted a medium range clipper.  I couldn't afford a pro clipper...ones that were over $400.  Mine were just over $200 and were a good fit for me.

Just don't buy a cheap pair...you'll curse them if you do!  Also one with the detachable blades comes in handy.  Are they all like that now?  As far as blades go that would be good for Willow I can't help you there.  I still know very little about clippers.  Just wanted to share my experienced.

    Good luck.

Thanks, Johnny!  Yeah, I was thinking I'm going to have to get a more expensive one than the ones I've been looking at.  I think anything cheaper and it's going to heat up and get stuck and who knows what else.

I have a $40 Wahl pet clipper. Ive had it forever, and it still works good. Ive heard bad reviews on it but honestly it works fine for me. I use it to shave the cats (2 longhair cats, one that gets mats no matter how often you brush her and the other dont tolerate brushing) I shave one of them several times each summer, and 1-2 times durring the winter (just her belly to prevent mats) and it gets the job done well. If I am using it for a lone time, it will get really hot. But thats not really a problem for me, if Im not finished and they get hot I just let them cool and then start again.
Going thru cat hair takes time (its easier if I bathe them first). Ive done 2 longhaired dogs with it, and it went thru their hair MUCH easier, and a ton faster.

If you want something to thin down her back end and mane, why not just get some thinning shears?

I do have thinning shears but I want something quicker.  It takes a very long time to hand thin her out.  And, I've actually caused blisters on my fingers and everything from trying it in the past.

Get the best you can afford.  I am on my third set now.  Each set cost more.  I use the Andis 2spd now, and it does a good job. The better, more expensive sets cut faster and last longer .  Less frustration.   Piper gets a close hunter cut in May or June, a trim going into Fall, and touch ups to avoid looking like a sheep through the winter.

I have an Oster Golden A-5 that I bought to use on Shari. It was great on her bloomers where she'd mat and on the hair that constantly grew from between her pads.  I paid $150 for it, but it was worth it, and I still have it.

I use an ACG 2 speed, too. I've had it over 3 years, using it full time, 5-12 dogs a day, and it's still going strong. It's taken some maintenance, but using it on 1 dog, you probably won't have to do much to it. I got it from Upco or Petedge, but check dog.com. They have AWESOME sales!
