    Pulsed electromagnetic therapy

I'm posting this here, because more people seem to come here. Anybody has any experience with pulsed electromagnetic therapy for dogs?

Nope, even I haven't.  I wouldn't be adverse to it.  Are you talking about a cold laser?

    Dear Callie

We are open to it also, but trying to find out whether anybody has any positive results with it. No, actually it is different than the cold laser = well, at least a different product. Apparently there are also some very small and affordable units http://www.assisianimalhealth.com/portable.php

     It's supposed to affect

    • calcium ion movement

    • endorphin levels

    • acupuncture point stimulation

    • nerve regeneration

    • circulation

    • tissue oxygen

    • cellular metabolism

Which all should reduce inflammation and promote healing.

Particularly the calcium ion movement is supposed to be the best trick. (It binds Calcium and in a cascade of events produces Nitric Oxide (NO), a natural anti-inflammatory)

The small unit costs $250, which would be cool. Our vet is looking whether to get a portable unit for his office.

While Jasmine's joints seem to be doing quite great, she seems to be getting recurring muscle injury on her left leg. Still investigating into why.

Thanks -- I have had the "cold laser" myself and have found it to be particularly non-effective.  But I'll be interested to hear how this goes -- it could EASILY have been the practitioner, not the machine *sigh*

Research is all over.  Most of the positive results are anecdotal, most of the scientific studies are neutral or negative.  Positive results seem to come from machine makers and sellers.  Talk to your vet, see why he believes it will work.

Apparently not all cold lasers are created equal. Our vet has one, but told us that Jasmine's physio therapist has a better one. We did have some good results there, but since it was a combination of hydrotherapy, chiropractic and the laser it is hard to say which actually did the trick.

Yes, finding the research, but not finding testimonials, which is what I'm looking for.

My wording was poor.  What I meant to say is that the research findings give different results.  The effects seem to be very specificly related to how it is used .  The operator has to understand what they are doing, then it may or may not work.

Some findings are negative, some neutral, some promising, some positive.  It is confusing.

That makes sense I guess (about the operator). It's like that with most things.

    Negative findings?
