She Ate Mold..

..about eight days ago, and I only realized it today after finding a bag of garbage in a far off spare room. She's a Saint Bernard, 150 lbs but acting normally and seems to feel fine. She has been urinating and drinking quite a bit.. the color of her urine is normal. She ingested a slice of VERY mold cheese.. where you couldn't see the cheese.. and something else that was extremely moldy in a ziploc that she chewed open, but I'm not sure what it was. Like I said, she drinks a good amount of water. Combined with her size, should I keep a close eye on her since it's been eight days or rush her to a vet anyway? I feel so guilty. We had lots of bags piled together to take away so I didn't even notice one was missing. Ugh. :(

You don't wanna mess around with Mold! If I were you I would have been at the vets the second I found out just to be safe. It's already been 8 days but I'd still take her to the vet for a full check up to be safe.

Are you saying she NORMALLY drinks a lot of water or is drinking more now?

I would likely go by her waste -- poop/pee -- but going to the vet and asking for a blood panel/urinalysis will likely turn a wasted trip into something valuable. If she's OK - then you've just plain given yourself a baseline for another time. If she's not, it will find it. If you snag a fresh sample of poop in a ziplock bag (err -- having a run on those??? sorry, couldn't resist) keep it on ice until you get TO the vet (within 6 -8 hours max) But again -- that fecal will either give you a baseline OR reveal any problem.

The cheese wouldn't worry me -- because they grow mold ON cheese to process it and age it. But whatever else there was? That could be a problem.
