    What power dremel?

    Hello everyone!

I have been using the pedi paws for my Entlebucher, Logan, since he was a puppy.  In the last few months, his nails have hardened and gotten thicker.  Now I am looking to purchase a Dremel.

I'm looking at the Dremel pet grooming kit, here:  http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3312954.

My question is, is the 4.8v going to be powerful enough?  It's a two speed, 6500rpm and 13000rpm.  Logan is 40lbs, and about 20" at shoulders, so he's not a huge dog.

    Thanks for your suggestions!!

My dremel is 4.8v, and it works fine. Bailey is 70lbs, with hard black nails, and I've never had a problem with it.

I think you're wasting your money getting it from petsmart though. They jack up the price because they label it "specialy for dogs".
    I got mine at Wal-Mart for $20.

Thanks Spazzy!  I will go with the 4.8v.  I checked out Walmarts and they do not carry this speed, only the higher speed/price.  I've checked a few other stores as well (home depot, lowes, menards, dog.com).  When did you purchase yours?  I am outside of chicago, so the walmarts are pretty well stocked with items.

I think I got it.... I dont know, maybe a year ago? Maybe a little more? It was deffinitely from Walmart, it was in a big section with power tools, they had lots of sizes of them. Did you check online or did you go to the store? If you didnt I would go to Walmart and ask if they have it.

I did a quick search and found this. Its the same one I have, only a newer model.

Actually I just called Walmart.  They do have a cordless 4.8v, however the rpm is only showing at 5,000 and 10,000.  It is 19$.  Wonder why it wasn't on their website??

Anyway the one at petsmart gives me 6500rpm and 13,000rpm.  I wonder if the difference is that important?

I just checked mine, it says 5,000 - 10,000 rpm on the back. Like I said, mine works find and I havent had any problems with it not being strong enough for his nails. I would go with the Walmart one :)

Thanks Grab Smile  I went to Walmarts this past weekend and purchased it (last one there).  I've been working on desensitizing Logan because it is a bit more powerful / different colors than the pedi paws.  He seems fine with it, so we'll use it completely on him today.  He'll love it because it will greatly reduce the time and vibration that the PP was causing.

    Thanks all!!
