Sagging Belly on One Side

    Sagging Belly on One Side

I have just noticed that my Abby's belly is sagging on one side (Back part of belly near right back leg).  I can only feel it like that when she is standing.  When she is in my arms & I am rubbing her belly, she doesn't seem hurt and I can't feel anything.  A few times when I was feeling it as she was standing, she turned her head back real quick towards me.

I have also noticed that she isn't wanting to jump up on couch, bed, etc.  She has just started doing this.  She will come to me on couch & put her head up on it, but not jump.  And, last night she was whimpering as she was standing next to my bed.  I picked her up & put her in my bed.  Yes, she has a bed beside our bed, but I still let her sleep with us - if she wants to. I am not sure if it is related to her sagging belly or not.  I am going to take her to the vet tomorrow.  Does anyone know what this could be?

Thank you, in advance....Peek-a-Poo Owner Dog

It could be a whole lot of things -- but coupled with the other things you are *very* smart to get her in right away.

Don't let yourself get all wound up ... and sometimes speculating does you more grief than good.  But like I said -- you're definitely smart to get it checked right away.  I' learned the hard way that just something as silly as "not wanting to jump on the bed" can be a big frigging deal.  When Billy got IMHA 3 1/2 years ago that was ALL I had to go on.

that's not this -- he had nothing like a sagging muscle or anything.  But any time you get a mature dog who simply suddenly stops "doing" something that's normal for them -- you gotta pay attention.

Good for you!! And good luck!  Please let us know what you find out??? (and you and Abby have my good thots and prayers even before you ask for them!!! *hugs*

The vet is treating her for hyperplasia (enlargement of cellls that are inflamed). It is in the area of her inguinal lymph node. If it is not better, he will determine if it is cancer. I'm praying that will not be the case.  He wanted me to bring her back in two weeks - which is today.  So, I will be taking her back to the vet today for him to check her.

The sagging has gone away (it was gone w/in 2 days of medicine) & she seems to be acting like herself.  So, hopefully whatever he felt that day other than the sagging will be gone!

    Thank you for asking.

I hope it is nothing serious.  Sending Abby some good vet vibes for tomorrow.

I'm glad the sagging is gone and she's feeling better. I'll check later to see what the vet said today; sending no cancer vibes.

Is she intact?  Usually hyperplasia (at least with ME) has to do with their cycle.  You may want to have her spayed -- particularly if she's having problems, it seriously tends to lead to a far lengthier life for them with fewer problems.  (and yes, my Prissy who looks so much like your girl, was spayed and lived to be amost 21)
