    High Urine PH

Lately Dee Dee has had very high urine ph. It is running about 8. She is on the Purina Veterinary diet kibble and takes two 400 uroeze a day. For some reason the ph is not coming down. This morning the Dr suggested that we switch her food to the Royal Canine and see what happens but I have heard bad things about this food. She has had struvite stones in the past and had to have surgery to remove them. Right now there are no crystals or blood in her urine which is good. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am getting really worried about this and am wondering what to do next? Are there tests that I should ask about?  In the past we have tried the Solid Gold Berry balance but got no results from it and at the time she was eating Solid Gold food.  I really want to get her on a good quality food and get this straightened out.  I am scared there si somethign wrong going on and we don't know abuot it or that thsi can lead to something going wrong. Thanks!

Lucky is currently on Royal Canin Skin and Stone- it's supposed to help their skin and prevent bladder stones/crystals. He had struvite crystals in his urine at one time. While royal canin isn't the best food in the world, i think it has slightly better quality than hills. (I've never tried purina vet diet for him). Lucky does well on it, and *knock on wood* hasn't had a bladder infection since he's been on it.

Some dogs do have a naturally high pH too. Daisy (my previous shih tzu) had hers running about 7.5 and there wasn't anything wrong with her. I also used to give her dried cranberries as a treat once in a while. What I actually did with her was I emailed different dog food companies asking what the target urine pH of their food was. The ones who knew I found it as a plus. For the life of me though, I can't find the emails that I sent (granted it was a few years ago)

good luck, and I hope she feels better!
