sores around groin area

Forever, LOL. She's doing incredibly well. I usually just use kibble, for treats. She has it in her cookie jars, and it travels well in bait bags, etc. She tolerates beef and fish, so sometimes, I'll cook her a little of that, for treats. She also tolerates sweet potatoes, so her chewies are either beef or sweet potatoes.

She has stopped vomiting almost completely. Her random, sometimes severe diarrhea is gone. Her skin is clearer than it's ever been. She is fully coated (for a chronic demodex dog, BIG DEAL). Her seizures even reduced, to the point that I had to reduce her phenobarb dose, when we started with the Z/D. It's a miracle of modern science, if you ask me. I don't like Hills regular foods, I really don't. A healthy dog has so many wonderful options. For Emma, though, this seems to be the way.

Wow, sounds like she is doing excellent on the z/d.  I'm glad you found something that works for her.  I also think Jake will be on z/d forever.  I just have to figure out what kind of treats he can have.  I'm wondering if that's the problem, that he is allergic to something in his treats.  I'm assuming you are feeding the z/d kibble as a snack?  I have been afraid of the z/d kibble because of the soybean oil preserved with bha and propyl gallate.  What are your thoughts on this for long term feeding?

    Thanks,

    Michelle

*shrugs* It works, so I use it. They do make a Z/D treat, but I'm not sure what's in it. I was thinking of getting a bag of Z/D cat food for treats, but forgot when I was at the vet's today (with my sick, older dog, ugh). It's probably bad to feed her preservatives, every single day, but.... it's better than her itching nonstop, breaking out in hives, chewing her behind until it bleeds, and having seizures from the stress of it all.

Yes, very true.  I would rather give the preservatives then see a dog uncomfortable and sick.

I can't find the product that you are recommending.  But the Ketochlor shampoo I use does have Chlorhexidine in it.  What is the product name at disocunt pet drugs?

Oops!  Never mind, I copied the address wrong.  I found it.  Actually using those pads might be easier than putting him in the tub and washing him.  Maybe after I use the prescription shampoo twice a week for a month, I can use the pads in place of the shampoo once the infection goes away.

Discount pets is the cheapest price I've found for the pads, about half of what my vet charges. I use them around her vulva about twice a week to prevent her from developing an infection. I also use them for her lip folds and between the pads on her feet. Those are the places where her skin would get red and irritated from yeast and bacteria. You can cut the pads in smaller pieces if you don't need to use a whole one, and put the left over pieces back in the jar. I used to mix a chlorhexidine solution in a large bottle and put some on a cloth but this is easier. I hope his infection clears up soon; good luck.
