itching and scratching

 My dog lucky, had some spots on his belly..We took him to a dermatologist and it was a thyroid issue. Dont know if you can take your pet to run some thyroid tests...It makes their skin dry and itchy...Hope that helps! I also used oatmeal shampoo, but nothing would help until he was started on some meds(dont know the names, this was years ago)...

My oldest shih tzu, Ripper (13), has really been having a bad time with itching and scratching too. Just started this fall - never had any allergy symptoms prior to this year. He eats raw food and we rotate protein sources. Something in his environment seems to be causing this problem. Fortunately, we have a great holistic vet and we have been dealing with this without steroids. She is the vet on www.mercolahealthypets.com - Dr. Becker.
