    Leaks no More

Hi, I know this topic has been discussed before but I need alittle more information.

Pella, my 9 yr lab has had incontinence for about 7 years, and she has been on Proin as a treatment. Now I know this is not the best thing for her.  About a year ago they switched her (because she was starting to have a few small leaks now and then) to Cystolamine which from what I understand is a time release form of Protin.  The Cystolamine worked great for her, no leaks.  And it made since because it did not hit her system all at once, it was time release. Se seemed alittle more clammer on it as well.

Well, now they have stopped making Cystolamine, controlled substance reasons. Eventually some people are using it for other purposes.  So, now the vet had to put her back on the regular Proin.

It has been four days, and she is back to having alittle leakage when she is laying down.  I feel sorry for her, because she knows something wrong happened and she looks gulity, but it is not her fault. I don't yell at her, I just deal with it gently.

Diapers are not an option. I have read about Leaks no More and contacted the company this was their reply:

" Our Leaks No More would definitely help your lab with the symptoms you

described. It comes in 15ml bottle and for a dog her size one bottle would

last just shy of 2 weeks at first. You dose 3 times daily until you have

signs of improvement which at first is smaller puddles and then it turns

into a dry pet. You cut back dosing to twice daily as it continues to

improve, eventually you reach a maintenance dose of once daily indefinitely.

Our remedy is safe and natural, there are no side effects and it will not

interfere with proin. Some people replace proin with our product and it

works by itself, that is your personal choice. As far as stopping proin, you

would need your vet's advice on how to wean off that."

I guess my question is, has anyone tried this, switching to LNM from Proin and how did it work, do you still use Proin.  The other option according to my vet is estrogen, and I don't want to go there. I haven't asked her about Leaks No More, I am sure she will not go for it.

If I could turn back the clock, I wish I would have waited until she was a year old to have her spayed, I was told this happened because her female organs did not delvelope enough and drop down like they should have for the surgery to have been done.  But whatever caused this, I just want her to not feel ashamed when it happens. She is such a good dog, she will let me know when our other ittle dog needs to go out, or is going to be sick or will come and comfort me if she knows I am sad.  So, I want to do what is best, so I need to understand my treatment options for her

    Sorry for rambling.

Jennie_cd uses Leaks No More on Emma.  It is a homeopathic (not the term "remedy";) -- it is COMPLETELY different from any  pharmaceutical.

If you want to contact me I can send you a long article I've done on homeopathy -- I can also talk to you via email or on the phone if it will help you.  But you can't understand how it works or how it won't "interfere" with Proin or other pharmaceuticals until you understand a bit about homeopathy.

You won't know if it works until you try it -- but you'll need to understand some things about homeopathy (like how to give it) before you'll really have success.  My first suggestion is to make SURE you read the directions and follow them to the letter.

Generally homeopathics have to be given directly into the mouth -- they are absorbed in the mouth NOT in the stomach.  So you don't pill them, you don't give with food.  Most of the time you crush the pill and pour the powder under the tongue or at least in the mouth.

I'm not saying it's difficult to use -- just **different**.  Holler if I can help.  I use homeopathics all the time on both me and the dogs.  I don't have experience with Leaks No More -- but I have a lot of experience in homeopathy.  Jennie can help you with the specifics of that particular remedy

Callie, thank you. I don't know if I should wait and see if Jennie sees my post or not or if I should just email you.

I really need to know how she went about changing over to LNM, and if she uses it only now. Maybe, I will wait a bit, but I am very interested in any information on this subject.

    thanks

You can use it with and then wean off the Proin -- I doubt there is a hard and fast rule.  But i emailed her and PM'd her to get her input.  She may have been gone for the Thanksgiving days.

I had my dog on Proin and it worked, but I wanted something that wasn't "medicine". I put her on Leaks No More and it worked.  I went down to giving her drops from three times daily to twice a day and then down to once a day.  She started leaking at once a day so now she is back up to twice a day.  She weighs about 65 pounds.  I just put the drops in her food.  I could never be able to find a way to put the correct amount of drops under her tongue.  The first time I did count out the drops in a spoon and put it in her mouth.  But, since then I just put it in her food and it seems to be fine that way.  I just wish they made a bigger bottle.

This is where someone needs to 'explain' homeopathics.  You don't have to measure the drops that closely ... literally just use the dropper and squirt it in the mouth.  Under the tongue is optimal but not a big deal.

BUT giving it in food destroys the efficacy of it hugely -- because they will tell you with **ANY** homeopathic to totally avoid food (or anything with flavor) for 15 minutes to an hour after or before taking *any* homeopathic.  It's not supposed to absorb in the stomach -- it absorbs in the mouth.

Most homeopathics have at least a little alcohol in them which keeps bacteria from growing.  You just suck up something like 1/4 to 1/2 dropper (whichever is close to the number of drops they tell you) and aim for the corner of the mouth.  Even squirting it in around the gums is FINE because it will absorb thru those tissues as well.

You might want to keep a special toy or something to offer after you give this -- because you really shouldn't follow it with a treat.  Because you really want it to linger in the mouth.

Most homeopathics are NOT bad tasting at all -- they pretty well taste like water in a liquid form. If you're using a homeopathic in a pellet form it usually tastes sweet (alcohol and sugar are the two primary delivery systems, followed by water)

OK, I will attempt to do this.  Maybe then, dosing just once a day is all that will be needed.

Give it a while on at least twice a day -- typically homeopathics don't "last" in the body -- they work by prodding the body to "do" a thing it should already want to do.  So do it the number of times it says on the label -- and then eventually reduce it back.

Sorry! Just got back homeBig Smile I use it on Emma, and used it on Ena Bean for a couple of months, when she was having some developmental weirdness. It works GREAT! I do follow the label, at first (three times a day), then wean off. Emma gets it twice a week ish, these days, and it works just fine. She has a neurological issue that affects her entire rear, and causes anal gland issues and incontinence (which ranges from mild to raging). I haven't tried any medications, because the Leaks No More is so great for her, and if she gets a UTI, a quick acupuncture session is all that's needed to get her "holding it" again. Speaking of that....

A big, big, BIG deal with incontinent dogs.... Their urethras do not close like normal urethras. They are extremely prone to UTIs, and UTIs make leaking worse. If you're having severe leaking or chronic UTIs, get a culture and sensitivity done. It costs me $90, and they draw out urine with an ultrasound guided needle, and send it off to the lab. The lab grows the bacteria from your dog's bladder, then tests different antibiotics on it. AMAZING results!!! It takes about a week, then you do a course of a specific antibiotic, and you're great, for a really long time, in my experience. I've done that on both of the girls (not Jewel, though, she doesn't have urinary issues) and it's the best $90 I've spent on Emma (there have been a LOT of $90 here, $500 theres on Em), as far as comfort and quality of life. She got OUT of panties, and learned to hold it again, and lived without a UTI for over a year, for the first time in her life. She started having them when she was 4 or 5 months old.
