Hiccups

    Hiccups

This is the best place I could find to put this...Maggie gets the hiccups often....about once a week...I feel bad for her, I guess, because I hate the hiccups, though she doesn't seem to be bothered.  How do you get rid of puppy hiccups?  I can't make her hold her breath, REALLY can't force her to drink water....I don't really want to scare her...

Interesting....I've got the same problem with one of my dogs Franklin.  His usually goes away rather quickly though.  Can't wait to hear what you find out.

Both our pupps had a lot of hickups when they were little. I think it's somehow result of excitement. It really didn't look to me that it would bother them half as much as it bothers us when we get them.

It should go away on its own.  There is no reason to stop the hiccups, unless they last so long (like more than a day) that it is abnormal, or unless the dog apppears to have trouble breathing, eating, or drinking.  (or appears lethargic or miserable).  In that case call your vet immediately, and he/she will be able to help.

    good luck!

LOL...funny subject but totally relevant!  My Rottie and Huskies never got hiccups, so when my Bullmastiff got them once or twice a week first thing in the morning I was freaked out. I counted the BM's hiccups and he would usually hiccup anywhere from 9 to 15 times and then it was over.  He never moved or showed discomfort and eventually the worrier in me settled down.

The Bobster, my little Pit, also gets hiccups once or twice a week first thing in the morning and he does not seem bothered by them one bit.  He usually hiccups about 5 times and then it is over.  He doesn't move or look at me.  He just stays in his curled up position like he is still sleeping and I don't move him around...I do pay serious attention though...and I really look forward to any learning around this topic.

I have no idea if most of my fosters had hiccups, but Dobies and Huskies, no.  I can't wait to hear more responses to this post. Surely there is nothing wrong with a dog having hiccups.  Now that I think about it, I haven't had hiccups in ages Smile sometimes they are fun...maybe dogs can enjoy them too.
