Poll: What does YOUR dog do?

 I chose Performance because that's what we do the most.  Right now, all three dogs are (or will be starting June 6th) competing in Rally.  We're getting ready to train for agility, and Nike and possibly Honor will be training in Obedience eventually.

BUT...I'm super excited because the AKK Specialty is concurrent with Premier weekend in June, and I'll be showing both Honor and Eli in Best of Breed - Altered!  I'm very excited about this, especially because Honor's never had the opportunity to show in conformation and she's such a crowd-pleaser!  

 I picked working since that's what Z's focusing on right now, but the performance category would fit just as well for us since all my dogs currently are involved in agility.

 I chose Performance since I'm in the process of training both my girls in Agility and Sandy for Rally.

Our dogs do pet therapy (so "other";) but they're also companion animals and go everywhere with us ... and they do their share of couch potato stuff too.  Because *I* am handicapped, but mostly because I am absolutely THE ***LEAST*** competitive person on the planet and we do no dog sports.  I can't think of anything more boring than sports of any kind or variety (yep, I hate football, baseball, any 'ball' and that slides over into "dog" sports).  I know other people do but I just don't get it -- *grin*  why full grown adults do things that expose them to injury and maiming and then do the same to their dogs all in the name of "competition"?? Huh?  It just makes no sense to *me* whatsoever. Somehow I simply missed the "sports" gene I guess.  It's just not part of my makeup and I looked all over the world for a like-minded man and found David. *smile*

Exercise is quite another thing (and the dogs are convinced that the new ramp we've installed out back for Kee and me is now simply to be called the "Kennedy Airstrip" because they're convinced they can achieve Mach 3 between the kitchen door and the back fence!! Yahoo!!  We do obedience with them, but again, NOT on a competitive level. 

This really should have been one of those polls where you can choose more than one thing -- I'd think that would be a tough choice for many.

 Callie: I'm not a competitve person. I hate competion. Lol. But I started with Agility for Maze because she NEEDED a job and obedience just didn't cut it.  With agility, it lets Maze learn how to problem solve and burn out some engery. If we ever get to the competion level then GREAT but if not, then oh well. We'll keep training because she enjoys it. The day she tells me enough is the day I'll stop.

And Sandy.. well.. Sandy's a jack so she needs something. Lol It only seemed fitting that I train her in agility and cuz she's a second dog, she trains for free!

I answered "all purpose".  Both the GSDs did/are doing conformation (Kenya UKC, Nikon UKC and SV, did AKC but not anymore).  Kenya does or has done agility, rally obediece, Schutzhund obedience, dog sport obedience, herding instinct and passed the CGC, TDI, and TT.  Nikon is doing Schutzhund and when he is physically mature we will try flyball, weight pull, and/or dock diving.  He is a CRAZY dog.  Kenya likes obedience and Nikon likes crazy, out of control stuff so flyball will be great, dock diving if he loves water.  Most competitive SchH people consider that "work" but I have a tighter definition of a "working" dog and I don't raise my dogs like most SchH people do (my dogs live in the house, have free reign, free access to toys and to each other).

 Ena did conformation, but I answered performance, because she didn't finish. Now, we do rally, Ena is working on obedience (hopefully in June!), and Emma is working on tracking. They're also demo dogs, "friendly dog" on CGC tests, shop dogs, and go everywhere companions.

Casey does go a lot of places with me - but he's not the most people friendly - so I do have to be careful. He loves going to the park and petsmart though. Anyplace he's allowed to go - I try to bring him along for continuous socialization. We tried aglilty... but he was afraid of the equipment....

 I answered Performance as Jersey and I train for obedience and agility (really hoping to start trialing in agility soon), but we also dabble in some field/hunting work.  Unfortunately, those sessions are on Tuesday mornings with the rare Sunday thrown in so we don't get out nearly as much as I would like... but I'm hoping to put at least a WC on him this season.  All I have to do is convince him that playing with the duck by dunking it on the shoreline isn't as fun as he thinks it is.  It was a tad embarrassing the time he successfully sank one of the few birds our group had to work with.

Professional couch/bed warmer here. I don't take Max to all that many places with me because most of the time he'd just have to wait in the car.  That couldn't be a whole lot of fun for him. He seems pretty content to wait at home and snooze or go outside and look for squirrels on the fence.

Joyce

Lily is our companion dog. She goes just about everywhere with us, whether it's to the store or to friends. She behaves well and plays well with other dogs. She is also great with children, unless they have food in their hands, then we have to be super watchfull of her because she'll steal a lick or two We're not really into agility or anything like that. She's active enough, plus finding the time to do agility is another thing...

LOL most of them don't fit into any one category really.

Gaci is doing performance right now, specifically agility. We'll be starting her back on tracking this summer though, and if you asked her she is always performing breed specific work....LOL.

Shimmer is basically performance - agility, rally, hopefully eventually obedience.

Zipper is the professional couch warmer and companion dog - he's the best dog in the world really, needs very little training for anything. Have been checking in on the next Therapy dogs program and certification to see when it's coming up. I want to certify him then he'll be a Workin' dog!

 I picked breed specific because that's what most of my dogs do. But then I noticed LGD was under "work" instead. I'd consider the Border Collies to be there as well, but herding was specifically mentioned under breed specific? Anyway, my sig line sums it up for my gang. Except Sam the pup's job is to be a puppy and grow healthy and happy!
