Your dog's name...

Cash: We got him the weekend Johnny Cash died and he's also the first dog I've ever paid money for. (It was just a rescue fee). His name at the rescue was Rocky and before that Mystique and we called him Sy for a couple of days but that didn't suit him. Cash has done well.

LT: World's dumbest name. It started out as a joke. The BF is a HUGE fan of the Angels and they had Jose Lima and his thing was always "LIMA TIME!" --LT... we thought that would be funny. And also, Lawerence Taylor b/c if there was ever a meat-head, destroyer puppy, LT was it. It stuck although, honestly,  I STILL think it's a dumb name. But I guess now it suits her.

Soda: Came with the name, but I really liked it, so I kept it. Thought it suited her well and it's cute.

    uh, Barney.

We took him in at Christmas time for a few weeks from a vet who was patching him up after he was run over by a car.  They said his name was "Demon".  I said no dog comes into my house named anything negative, so I used the first name I could think of.

The dog stayed, the name stuck.  I should have thought about it more.

My parents dogs name is Barney too! When I first got him, before I named him, I was walking him by a park. A Mom and little boy came over and the little boy kept called him Barney because they're dog, who just passed away, was named Barney and looked just like the cocker I just got. So, the name stuck.

Reggie is named after my favorite football player, Reggie White.  JRT are tenacious and never give up and that is the same way Reggie White played football.

Jake is named after the Cleveland Indians baseball stadium.  Personally I hate everything about Cleveland but hubby is a fan.  And since I used to have a cat named after Kirk Gibson of the Detroit Tigers, I had to give in to something!

Bella is named after a dog that a family that I used to babysat had.  Plus I wanted to name her something different from everyone else.  Once I named her then I started seeing Bella's all over the place!

Our first dog was a little Maltese named Sasha. My mom named her... why Sasha, I don't know, but it seemed to fit her well.

Sabina is our current dog. She's a German Shepherd mix (mix, mix, mix etc - we don't know with what and we don't know how much, lol but def. has some GSD). We have some German heritage so we figured if we get a German dog, we might as well give it a German name. Sabina is really spelled "Sabine" in German, but we changed the "e" to an "a" to make it more socially pronounceable - lol.

My boxer/pit mix's name is Leonidas. He was a great king of Sparta, and I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOVE "The 300." King Leonidas was so strong, brawny, powerful, and manly! My dog, on the other hand is the complete opposite. He's so shy, clumsy, and chicken lol. I figured a strong name for a chicken pup would be cute :-)

    Hello,

Sparky is our Boxer, and my 3 yo Kristopher named him after watching Dora "puppies, where she and Boots rescue all the pups from the shelter and dog catcher. I think its a great name as he is quite sparky!

Lex - His full name is Lexington steele, which is an uhmm...lets just say "film" star.

    The cats -

Bella - this was our first kitty, DH named her, he likes that name.

Mort - She is named after the baby lemur in the movie Madagascar. When we first got her as a kitten she looked just like him.

Little kitty - At first we called her Pearl. But every time we talked about the cats we referred to her as the Little kitty, so the name just stuck.

Bumble bee - He is named after the character  in Transformers.

My greyhound, Brock, was named after my daughter's commanding officer at the Naval Academy. Kerry "sent me" Brock three months after she was murdered while serving in Coronado, CA in '93.

My current grey, Gus, was seen wandering the streets of San Augustine, TX in '04. After nine months, he was finally captured after being sedated. I drove from PA to Houston to "visit" him. He adopted me instead.

Magic, my spunky grey from Ireland, raced as Magic Ballad. She left for The Bridge on March 13.

When we were naming our dog as a puppy, my husband went to Home Depot and got paint samples that were white.  He brought them home and we looked at all the names and when we got to the one that was called "morning mist" we both shouted out "MISTY!" so that's what it was!

Our kitty is named Milo because he looks like the cat from "Milo and Otis".

Our former dog who died at 10 mos, was named Bella.  She was a great pyrenees mix and Bella means beautiful in the eurpopean region that the Pyrs originated.  We had a cat named Whiskers, who had the LONGEST whiskers I've ever seen.  We also had schnauzers at two different times, one was named Gretel, one was named Schultz...just because we were looking for German names.  We also had a golden retriever who was blonde, and he was named Sunny, and a cat named Spanky because he was such a brat, that I kept saying he was a little rascal, so I took the name Spanky from "The Lil Rascals".  My one childhood cat was named Smokey, because he sat in front of the fireplace all the time and watched the smoke go up the chimney.

Our first dog: Bjarne after some obscure author my mom liked.

Next: Ben-my brother just liked it and Marty- he could catch flies and I thought "Marty McFly" was hilarious. (Yeah, that's why you don't let 11 yr olds name dogs!)

Jed- when I saw him in the shelter he just looked like a good 'ol boy. And he had a HUGE head on a skinny little body. Soo, "Jed with the giant head" has a nice ring to it. On a side note, he's grown into the head nicely.

Her kennel name was Cha Cha.  Gracie was after Gracie Allen, although what inspired the trip down that avenue was actually Bob Hope's passing a few days before I picked up G.

Her middle name was always planned to be Jane, after my trainer's dog whom I loved and respected a great deal.  Jane died very suddenly, so I am glad that a small part of her lives on in Gracie's accomplishments as "Gracie Jane der Flitzer".

der Flitzer is a rough German translation for streak of lightning.  Her father's name was Thunder, thus the reference in her name.

Jada came with her name.  I presume after Jada Pinkett-Smith?

Achilles.. the BF chose that when he got him as a stray puppy.  I just learned recently that he was named around the time that movie came out where Brad Pitt plays Achilles.

Dawson came to me at 7 months old... his breeder was a huge Dawson's Creek fan.  I liked the name, and he already knew and responded to it, so I kept it.

Gracie (Grace) sort of named herself; the name just popped into my head after meeting her.  I'd had a handful of names I liked from a baby book, but this one really suited her.

Nadja is a black German Shepherd.  I wanted something a bit exotic that had a spiritual connotation to it.  A friend of mine had suggested "Hope", but it was too vanilla for me... I looked up translations of "Hope" on the Internet and came up with Nadja...which means hope.  I liked the idea of having dogs named Hope and Grace ;-)
