Where did you get your dog?

We bought our boxer - Max because my dad wanted a showdog.

As for our beagle - Totti, I found him one day... He was not even 2 months old and it seemed he was alone, so I picked him up. And then a girl came to me and asked me if I could take him because she couldn't have him anymore. Obviously, I could... Oh yes, it was Friday the 13th! My lucky day!

Jessie came from the local animal shelter. We put her on hold and when we came back the next day to take her home, she was in a different area, isolated from the other dogs. They discovered she had kennel cough and would have put her down if we hadn't said we were adopting her. We love her more than we could have ever imagined; I think it was fate that we found her.

    2. Kodi (golden ret.) i got from a backyard breeder when i was 14 years old..i didnt know any better..(although my mom should have sence she has bought several dogs from reputable breeders and shown them)  I payed for it..as she now struggles with genetic defects.

Diesel (akita) - somewhere between a BYB and reputable breeder.  They didnt do any health testing/show the parents (they only had one male and one female) but both were very highly bred dogs, and just about every other dog in Diesel's pedigree (including all of his grandparents) are health tested/champions.

    1. Tessa (beauceron) - very respected/reputable breeder.  She even owns/bred/exhibited the BOB Beauce this year at Westminister- which is tessa's cousin!  Bought her as a show prospect, and knew i wanted a dog that would be less likely to have health problems or genetic faults for the show ring!

My uncle bought Shailer from the flea market. He came with all his first shots, tail docked, and dew claws removed.

    Jazzy - from the pound.

The poodles - from three respectable breeders, although one (in retrospect) was questionable.

    dyan
She had just had 18 puppies and got mastitis and they could  not breed her anymore...so they gave her up.

Dyan that is so sad..They didn't deserve her if they were willing to get rid of her so easily, because she couldnt "produce" for them anymore Super Angry

Molly came from a breeder. The breeder has 2 Lhasa Apsos females, 1 Cocker Spaniel female, and a Mini Poodle male. She sells Cockapoos and Lhasa-Poos for 350.00 each. So I guess you could say that I got Molly at the bargain price of 300.00 because I answered the ad in the paper and not the internet. The ad in the paper was 50.00 cheaper then the internet. I also got the pick of the litter for what thats worth. Soooooooooooo yes she is a byb puppy. I have to say that I did not know about the byb when we got her. It was after I got on this forum that I found that out. I knew that she was a mix but mixed breed pups prices have gone up in price from when the last time I payed money for a pup.

Ripley came from a sport breeder who breeds dogs mostly for agility...she's ok, health tests but doesn't show.

Frosty came from a show breeder.

Shiner came from a breed rescue. I first saw him and tried to adopt him at the pound, but he was tagged "rescue only" and they wouldn't release him to me. After he was picked up by a rescue, I contacted them and adopted him from there.

The kitties...Pookie came from a free kittens ad in the paper, Muffin was a rehome from a co-worker. The co-worker found a litter of three strays, but her roomate was allergic, so she found homes for them.

Harley is a rescue dog. The breeder who got him before me said that he was completely covered in matts and fleas and his nails had grown into his pads.  He was a bit malnourished as well.

He has come a long way in the two years I have had him.  His coat is longer then it has ever been and is soft.  We have had to play food roulette to find the right food.   I have had to do a lot of work with him with handling his feet to trim his nails which he still cries when you hold his paw to trim nails.  So he is my work in progress:).

    4. FREE FROM CRAIGSLIST/FAMILY MEMBER/FRIEND/CO-WORKER

But it was more complicated then that... the person who had Raja (she was Winnie then) lived close to a family member so I noticed barking and crying from a house (it was a rural area) and found Raja with a huge chain tied to her neck and chained up...

Then I confronted the owner who said he actually had put a "Free To Good Home" ad on Craigslist.Out of curiousity when I got home I checked and yes there Raja was under the "Free Stuff" catagory where her ad read "Free Dog" Angry

After adopting her the saving " The most expensive things in life are free" took on an entirely different meaning! Haha Now can see that in both ways!
