I am speaking of the flea and tic advantege. Your correct it does kill fleas, it just doesn't repel them. there is a difference. it will repel tics not fleas. It will kill both but repels only one. pay closer attenting to details on the commerical.

I don't rely on information provided in a commercial to make purchasing decisions on any product. :)  I don't use Advantage in any form.

@boxermom2marley, Sorry for that horrible reaction. Ive had an incident like that before and its a horrible feeling and very scary. Ive of course heard frontline is good. ive physically shampoo my dog then used regular flea and tick shampoo, use the comb and it helped. but he didnt have many fleas and he does go out alot. hes a half indoor and outdoor dog. i have never used any type of drops, pills, just shampoo. he is flea-less now, but usually beginning of summer or winter he gets a small amount. the neighbors dog's arent groomed well and are left outside so they usually bring ticks and fleas. so we've always used the shampoo method (that green on)

It was very scary. I almost popped his butt in the car and drove him to the ER vet. Where do you live? I know a lot of people that dont have to use the drops at all but they live in Northern states like Montana where it is cold most the year and bugs like fleas ultimately cant thrive. FL is filled with bugs and there is no possible way to go about just washing the dogs with flea shampoo and having that take care of the problem.
The last few times I went to the vet with Marley, he said that a lot of people are having issues getting rid of fleas right now.

ETA: I will wash Marley with oatmeal shampoo, then wait 2 days (like the instructions say) and apply the Frontline Plus. I wash Mar every two weeks. I can tell the difference from the first two weeks to the second two weeks...I am thinking after washing him, since Frontline is a topical, most of it gets washed off in the bath??

if you're bathing him, you need to make sure you're using a soap free shampoo. Otherwise, yes, you can wash the product off!

    Thanks!

Erica1989 what do you mean by a soapless shampoo? We use to use frontline and it stopped working, then we switched to advantage which also stopped working so now we use comfortis it has worked well for over a year now for my moms dogs, and almost a year for me.

The shampoo will say 'soap free' on the label. They are formulated specifically to NOT wash off the flea product, as the topicals use the skins oils to disperse over the pet. Comfortis is still my favorite for dogs, though!

Oh ok I have never noticed that some say that maybe that is why the topical stuff that we were using stopped working.

I use flea comb, flea spray and give bath to him with a flea shampoo on regular basis. A variety of medicated sprays and powders are available to kill fleas. You should choose best product that provide long-lasting effects and protect your pet's skin also. Before starting any medical therapy taking advice from veterinarian would be useful.
