Puppy mills are inhumane breeding facilities that produce puppies in large numbers.
They are designed to maximize profits and commonly disregard the physical, social and
emotional health of the dogs. The breeding dogs at puppy mills live their entire lives in
cages, and the poor conditions can cause puppies to have physical and behavioral
problems.
What can we do to help stop puppy mills?
The best thing is to stop supporting them by choosing not to buy my next pet from a pet store or Internet site
Supporting stronger federal and provincial laws to stop puppy mills from operating in US and Canada
So where can you find a puppy?
You can look to a local shelter or rescue, many of these organizations have many puppies looking for good homes.
You can also go to a reputable breed. A good breeder will never sell puppies over the internet, they may advertise and show you the parents and simply say they have pups available, but will require to meet you in person and ask you many questions. Very rarely will a breeder ship a dog. When you visit a breeder, the dogs will live in the home and be well cared for. Never be afraid to ask questions.
