Can you believe it? A Tibetan mastiff puppy was sold in China on Wednesday for almost $2 million. That is 12 million yuan!
A little about the Tibetan mastiff : Tibetan Mastiffs evolved from Mastiff-type dogs used by the ancient Roman army. Some of the Romans dogs were left behind in the Himalayas, and it is from these dogs that Tibetan Mastiffs eventually descended. Tibetan Mastiffs were likely used to guard livestock and their owners from human and animal predators. Males stand at least 26 inches at the shoulder, and females stand at least 24 inches at the shoulder. Their somewhat long and thick, cold-weather coats come in black, brown and blue/grey. Some Tibetan Mastiffs also have tan marking and gold hues. Tibetan Mastiffs are watchful and reserved dogs with formidable guarding instincts that need to be kept in check. Though loyal and loving to their families, they are very hard-headed and will often try to assert their dominance if given a chance. Many Tibetan Mastiffs also do not get along well with other small animals.
Before this pup was sold, the most expensive dog was a red mastiff named "Big Splash" sold for 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) in 2011, in the most expensive dog sale at that time.
Note: This is not THE Tibetan mastiff puppy but A Tibetan mastiff puppy! :) So cute!
