    Dog Clothes...Cool or Cruel

My Chiwat Lolita has more clothes than I do.  Some people think the clothes for dogs are cool...others cruel.  It seems to differ greatly from the owners of big dogs to the owners of the smaller breeds.  What do you think?

I think dog clothes that are necessary (ex: to keep the dog warm/dry) are perfectly fine. However, I don't really like when people dress their dogs up for no reason other than they think it looks cute. To me, those unnecessary outfits make the dog look uncomfortable. Also, people that do dress their dogs up should realize the dog isn't a human child; it's a dog. Those dogs need to be taken out of the purse and allowed to walk on all four's and socialize and play and do dog things.

    Just my 2 cents!

I agree with Stephanie, some clothing is necessary and appropriate. As for 'dress up', it doesn't really bother me one way or another. I am a little uncomfortable with the (sometimes) excessive $$$ that is spent dog accessories. If I had the extra cash I would rather spend it somewhere where there is a need - local charity, dog rescue etc. But that is just me and I'm sure others could judge my spending habits as well. My DH for example. LOL! Do I think it is cruel? No.

I own a hairless dog. 'Nuff said.

All of ours wear clothes.  Some out of necessity.  Others because I think that it's cute.

I wanna see Brutus in clothes - have I missed the pics?

You didn't miss them Paige.  I haven't posted any, yet.  I'll have to take some of him in his clothes.

Please find him a Hulk costume, or something equally tough.  That would be awesome... with Halloween coming along shortly, perhaps there's a child's costume that would fit the bill. lol

I am not into dressing up dogs for the fun of it. Not my style. But I don't think it's cruel...just unnecessary and I know my Schnauzers would think I was very demeaning if I thought to dress them up in costumes.

I have used baby clothing for health-related issues, however. Baby tee for after a spay, panties after Gaci's vulva surgery, a baby sock when Zipper hurt his foot, etc.

Although I have been tempted to buy each of them a Halloween costume this year.....I've not done it yet though. Trying to remind myself that they would hate it....lol.

To keep them warm is fine... Can't stand it when they are dressed up and paraded like little fashion accessories.  Now I *did* once put a high viz jacket and some ear defenders on Max, on impulse, for a laugh, and took them off again within a few minutes once we'd got a pic of him.  And no, he didn't look "demeaned" by it.  [Proudly:] MY dog has a sense of humour Stick out tongue

Ohhh! Can't forget, my double-coated dog LOOOVES to play dressup. I have to watch her, any time there's brightly colored boas or anything sparkly that she considers wearable around. She has been known to pull things off of shelves, and "put them on" in her own way. She is quite the clown.

Clothes are a necessity for my crestie girl.  I will admit that they have for fun clothes as well (Halloween costumes, a dog Toboggan, etc.).

    BTW, what's a "Chiwat"?

Max has one sweater and this past winter it didn't actually get cold enough for him to wear it.  Other than that, he has a great assortment of bandannas.  I'll need to be getting out his Halloween bandanna pretty soon. Smile
