    Yearly Cost of Your Pet

How many pets do you have and... about how much do you spend on them per year??   Big Smile

Between Bailey and Tank... Bailey is 50lbs and Tank is 10lbs.... I spend about $3,500 a year give or take....  TOTALLY worth it!!!  I think they are my favorite thing to spend money on  :)

...........I'd rather not do that math for fear I might have a heart attack, lol Stick out tongue

Six pets total here.  Five dogs, & a kitten.

I'm afraid that, if I calculated what I've spent on them this year, I'd likely go jump off a bridge! Stick out tongue

I will agree that they are totally worth it, though.

OK, I couldn't even begin to calculate.  But, to give an idea since July I've spent close to a thousand just in blood work ONLY.  I spend what I need to though, I don't even worry about it.  I just sacrifice other places.  DH and I haven't been out to a movie or dinner since the spring.

7000-8000 RMB which comes down to 1000 something US$. it might seem cheap, but considering living expenses here, it's not THAT cheap... i agree with everyone else though. i wouldnt hesitate to spend far more than that, provided that i HAVE the money...

willowchow - I nearly killed my keyboard when I read how much you've spent on bloodwork... I honestly can't imagine getting a bill like that, I wouldn't be able to afford even one dog at that price, or you must have a lot of bloodwork done....

I don't know exactly how much we spend because my parents take care of the feeding, have 5 dogs and 2 rats, the dogs probably 600+ on food, and in the last two months it's been over $800 and will probably total $2500 before the year's over for the vet. Add 2 grand for the new fence, dog supplies like brushes, collars, leashes, and nail clippers those things dissappear often at our house.

The rats - total for this year that I have reciepts for is $570(counting the new cage, $240),  plus whatever impluse toy/bedding buys I've made so probably 700 on them and no idea on food but it's less than $150.

It's hard to say ________ is the yearly total because as the animals age there's always something new. So far I haven't regretted spending a single dime even if that means that I haven't been able to buy books or dvd's.

     Four dogs, one horse.

Bought a house for the animals, a car for the animals, feed, vet bills, supplements, toys, furniture, beds....

I wouldn't need to work if it wasn't for them. Stick out tongue

I don't think I want to know. Or could even begin to count for that matter. My retail therapy is buying stuff for the dogs or cats....

Jewel[LabradorX] has been a very inexpensive dog.I've probably spent $500 on her this year. She has been blessedly healthy her whole life.Noel [Aussie]has cost more like $1200 this year because she needed puppy shots,to be spayed,a crate, and obedience classes....not to mention the 50 or so toys she has demolished. We did move 10 years ago from a house that was paid for to this place on forty acres just so we could keep three dogs but those guys are gone now so I can't in fairness factor my mortgage in anymore.

I have three dogs and definitely do not want to do that math!!  Some years are worse than others due to emergencies and such.

    • Gold Top Dog

I have no idea - and if I asked Mom, and she did the math, I might not have a dog anymore. LOL!

Sam's the cheep one for sure - but I still catch s**t for wanting to get him a new toy or something other then cheep food.
He's had a new tag this year(10 bucks) new collar(another 10) rabies shot(5 bucks) 6 bags of cedar bedding(so, about $70) a bag of dog food every 2 weeks at $20 a bag so($550-ish) shots, we do most of them ourselves to keep from paying an arm and a leg($50). dog treats($50-ish)

Taz, on the other hand....HAD to go to the vet for every shot that we could have given him at home. So, $200 in shots at the Vet. $150 to neuter him. His food is $10 a bag, ever 2 weeks so aboy $250 - 300 in food. well over $150 in toys. $100 in treats. $100 in leashes/collars/harness's and clothes. I'm probably forgetting something.

You can tell who's dog is really spoiled in this deal right? Sam gets the s**t end 'cuz he's a big dog and outside. Taz , however, walks on water.

That's whay I can't wait to move out and take Sam with me. /end rant.

We just got the cats so I have no idea yet....

I'm guessing on all my pricing so - yeaaa.

OMG!!! Is it possible she is anemic after all of thoes blood draws ???  ( JK but again OMG!!) It's no wonder I adore my vet!!

On  a more serious note, this year we had 9 dogs for 8 months then went down to 6.   So if I round up to date this year

    $1296.00 for kibble

     1100.00 in Snacks

       430.00 in bait up grades

       770.00 in supplements

4045.00 in vet bills ( don't forget one dog was in a terrible fight)

350.00   in new equipment ( collars, show leads, leads )

    $7991.00

This does not include........ Show entries, Gas to shows @ 9 mpg, RV parking Fees,  Entertainment Groceries, Booze and Beer for Show gatherings, Up keep on RV #6,  Toys, Coat conditioners and shampoos,  Thank You cards for all of the help, Internet and Computer equipment, Web site,  Camera Memory cards, The National Specialty 1200 miles from us, RR Rodeo which is 1400 miles..... I think I need a drink, a really BIG drink!  Darn dogs are living the life of Barbie!! And they are still cheaper than my 5 grandkids!!

And sadly this is a cheap year! No litters so no extra expense for puppies, that averages over 4 grand a litter.

I budget roughly $150-$200 per month for my 2 dogs and one cat, so about $1800-2400 per year assuming no unexpected expenses.  Maggie had dental work this year, so that added about $600 to her yearly expenses.

I could make Willow feel good -- Billy's still seeing the acupuncture vet twice a month PLUS the homeopathic vet (that's about $400 a month right there).  During the IMHA I was spending $600 a month JUST on cyclosporine.  He had six transfusions in a month and just in that first 3 months I think we spent like $6000 and that was ONLY the beginning.

When you have a dog who has a chronic problem -- like an immune-mediated problem you spend a TON of money on things like blood panels (and a full chem panel is about $190 and that's JUST the panel and not the vet visit).  Even post-IMHA we're doing four blood panels a year and since we had this little bobble with the liver values he's had three of them in 5 weeks.

Now shall I tell you about the savings account I have JUST for the dogs?  JUST for emergency vet bills?  Every bonus, every "found" dollar (from coupons to money I find in pockets to reimbursement money at work) goes to a separate savings account.  It doesn't cover it all but it does lessen the 'sticker shock' sometimes.

Let's just say I could probably get a brand new car if I didnt have dogs!!!
