POLL: Where does your dog, eat?

Both dogs eat in what I call the dining room, but it's attached to the kitchen, and has tiled floor just like the kitchen...so I just voted kitchen. Their bowls are right next to each other, but they don't eat at the same time. They hardly ever even see each other, so...

The cats eat in the bathrooms. In the main bathroom, the food's up on the counter, cause otherwise the dogs eat it. In the master bath, the food's on the floor, cause neither dog ever goes in there (well okay, never say never..Cherokee HAS trapped herself in there a couple times cause she went in to eat cat food, and the door blew shut.. Doggy karma! LOL).

Brownie eats in the entryway, Cuddles in the kitchen, and Bailey who I am pet sitting in her crate downstairs.

We have the same set up.  Max's dishes are on the side of the kitchen counter that faces the dining room. His regular bowls are there, but he also follows anybody who's eating anything anywhere else around, so technically he eats everywhere. Smile

Thought I would offer a small thought or two on the concept of crate feeding. With 9 food motivated dogs the danger of a food fight is ever present.  Rather than even give it the smallest chance of happening our pups are taught from the get go to eat in their crate, this also reinforces the crate is a "lovely" place to hang out great treats, no food pressure and their treat or chewie is their own.   Years ago I was one of the "How can you cage your dog folks?"  After living in Hurricane Alley for over 2 decades I am a how can you not make crating the best and most comfortable training tool possible??

My dogs don't have crates, but I have never been a "How can you cage your dog"? person. Smile To each his or her own, I say. I have trained my dogs from the get-go to eat politely side by side and then leave the area. I don't stand there and watch them, as was suggested somewhere else. And I am absolutely sure they won't fight over food. They are just trained to be polite and not go after someone else's food or bones or anything.

My dogs eat in the kitchen.  The three Westies eat side by side in a row and the Golden eats a little to the side of the stove, because it is a more convenient place for her.  My dogs also have been trained as puppies to eat politely and I also do not have to stand and watch them.  They each know which is their bowl and do not bother the others bowls.  I am confident that they will not fight over their food.  I have crates that they sometimes get it.  They used to go in them when I go to work.  They no longer have to.  When I go to work, I usually give them a little treat and since they were used to getting those in their crates, they will sometimes get in the crate in the morning for their treats.  Otherwise, they also just wait patiently next to each other for their treats.

generally, my dogs all eat in the kitchen... when i was trying to coerce blossom to gain some weight, i fed her in my hallway, because she won't eat if there is another dog around her.

Each one of ours eats in their crates which are located in our master bedroom. They've always done this and are just used to it. I don't close the crates while they're eating, but it does help when each has no question about where they're supposed to eat. It also helps keep Cheyenne from inhaling her food so much and then scouting out more from her brothers. She knows that what's in her bowl is all that she's getting.

I separate our dogs for their meals:

Lacie eats in the living room.

    Rex eats in my bedroom.

    Keisha eats in the bathroom.

Jazzy eats in my daughter's room.

    Zoe eats in the kitchen.

My dog eats in the kitchen next to the pantry. She doesn't eat in her crate because she only goes in her crate if she has to.

Muggle eats in his open crate, and Monster the cat eats on top of the crate--I have a little board up there on top of the crate cover to keep him from slipping through the wire.

Separation is important with our 2, so they eat in areas where they can't even see each other. No doubt, one would think the other was getting something better.

I keep my kitchen off limits to dogs. It's just a thing I have about not wanting to be tripping over them or pulling even more dog hair out of my food.
