In Memory of my sweet Shadow - (shadowsgin) (very pic heavy)

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

In Memory of my sweet Shadow - (shadowsgin) (very pic heavy)

In memory of my sweet Shadow lost to cancer  1 year ago today.

I want to say thanks to all the many friends in this forum that helped me through Shadow's short illness and finally helping me with my grief  when we helped him cross the bridge.  Shadow's loss was so hard for myself and my husband.  It was so difficult to discuss my feelings with my hubby as he was also grieving.  You allowed me to cry, your kind words and heartfelt condolences helped me get through our loss.   There are so many forum friends that have not only lost their pets but also loved ones this last year.  All of them reached out to share their losses and everyone so kindly went through these losses together.

Today I want to celebrate Shadow's life and the meaning it had for us.  Yes, we miss him so very much but Shadow taught us to be very responsible pet parents.  Shadow was so loyal, so loving, always wanting to please.  He came into our lives as the 1st pet for Ron and I that was just our boy, no more children at home.   We learned so much about training, playing, feeding, loving, including a pet as part of our family not just a dog.  We have loved all our pets but the 4 wonderful years we had with Shadow changed alot about our lives and our way of thinking.  Shadow not only touched our lives but the lives of our Vet family, our neighbors, our friends, our children and grandchildren.  Our Vet family saw to it that Shadow received a private cremation at their expense.  He now resides in a beautiful engraved cedar box in the entryway of our home.   That was his favorite place to lay watching over us and those that entered our home.   I truly feel like he watches over us still, that he shares his feeling of love and devotion with Rocky and Hot Shot.

Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts and my love for my sweet Shadow today!

Thank you so much for sharing those pictures; he was such a sweet boy. It's obvious he lived a very happy life, albeit brief.

What an adorable puppy and handsome young man he was.

Such a short life, but he obviously had a wonderful one. He does remind me of Kota as a puppy. SO sorry that you lost someone that you loved so very much. I'm sure he is still there in spirit watching over his family. Julie

Sometimes it isn't how long we are here, but what happens while we are...clearly this was a much beloved dog that had an impact on a family and a community (ours).  Thank you for sharing the photos, and the memories.

That football photo cracked me up!

That was one of my favorite pics.   He was like that, loved to play ball and frisbee.   Mostly loved it when the grandkids came to visit so they would play football.   He would grab that ball and hang on so tight the the boys would not be able to get it away from laughing so hard!  He was a riot

That was a lovely tribute to a great dog.    They touch our hearts and embed themselves in our souls.      They enrich our lives in more ways then we could ever express.    I'm glad you are now able to celebrate his life - he will always be alive through his impact on the lives he touched.
