Sweet baby Louie (thedoc617)

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Sweet baby Louie (thedoc617)

    Hey guys,
I have been lurking on here, posting on occasion, but I really didn't want to have this thread, but I must. Two dogs cross the bridge in my house in 4 months. My heart hurts.

This sweet baby was probably sick when I got him. He had something wrong with his liver and major infections going on in his body. A normal liver count in a dog is between 82 and 110. His was almost 4,000. My heart thought he would pull through this, but my head (and almost 3 years of microbiology and histology classes) knew he may not be able to beat this. He tried so hard. He made it about a month after his diagnosis and then he just went to sleep. It was funny, because the day before he played like he never played before in his life. Running and jumping and wagging his tail and barking at everything.

He would have been 7 months old on the 19th of May.

Sorry to hear about adorable Louie. Maybe he was running, jumping etc. because he knew he would soon be free of pain. I'm sure you gave him lots of love & comfort in his short life.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet Louie.  It's hard enough when an older pet dies, but when they are taken from us so young you can't help but wonder why.  Why did this have to happen?  There really are no answers, and the only thing that seems to help is time.  I hope you stick around here and enjoy chatting with all the other animal lovers here.

So sorry the little guy could not beat the odds.  Youn need to think of his life in terms of quality rather than quantity and he was running and jumping because he had love and a happy home.....

Very, very sorry you've had to lose two in such a short time - I know your heart is aching and your home feels empty.  Wishing you comfort....

Sorry to hear about Louie.  You were certainly a good mom to him while he was here.

It's taken *me* a couple of days to be able to post.  Too much like when I lost Pollyanna (altho we did know when we took her she'd been abused/horribly injured and that she wouldn't walk).  Her injuries were just too great and we only had her 2 months.  But there's something about losing a pup who has battled for their life ... it's beyond extra-ordinarily difficult.

It took me a couple of months to be able to open my heart again ... and *then* it was actually because my "old guy" (who was 17 1/2 then ...) pretty well let me know he did NOT like being an "only" and he didn't like being solely responsible for all the pet therapy and would I PUH-LEEESE get my heart right and get off my duff???

Actually let HIM pick.  I was about as enthused as nothing ... but Foxy picked Billy!

Good luck -- my point is only this ... it is normal to feel the way you do.  Give yourself time to grieve, but don't let yourself get stuck in it.  I'm sure Polly found Louie right off, and she's probably still playing with him!!

It is always sad to lose a beloved dog no matter the age.  But it seems especially to lose one that is just starting out his life.  I am so sorry for yur loss.
