My beloved Boy ... it is so hard to let him go

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

My beloved Boy ... it is so hard to let him go

Today's a sad day at the crary's house. Our beautifull Romeo's life was taking from us in a split second.Well it really wasn't in a split second but it sure felt like it tome , here's the story guys.FIrst off I do not live with my father I love with my dad who has 2 dogs Rocky (lab/dobie whom is 8) And Romeo ( 1/1/2 year old shepherd mix).Well I got into a fight with my mom so I took Bear (for u guys who have seen the post about him being wolf dog) and I ran too my dads house which is about 40 minutes away with Bear on the leash.

I woke up at 2:30 a.m to let the dogs out like I do everyday I go to my dads, so I brought each dog out carefully like I always do.So I grabbed all three leashes Rocky & Romeo were running free like they always did our yard is huge and fenced in ALMOST everywhere.Bear was on his leash of course due to the fact he is an escape artist. So it was basically pitch dark out so I couldn't see the hole that Rocky had dug out under the fence.Romeo had slipped threw it silently and usualy he is so clumbsy but not this time ,we have a lot of wooded acres behind our has which people hunt in but as it belongs to us and we own it is private property usually the dogs don't go there unless my dad & sisters along with me are there watching. So I heard a gun shot but I really didn't think anything of it because guns are always going off behind my house,i usually let the dogs run around for about 10 minutes so I did and called them back and neither of them came and aslo Bear was whining like crazy so I went looking for the dogs cautiously.I got a flash light and that's when I saw the hole , i dropped the flash light and screamed to my dad who came running outside and told me to go get our gun so I did.We then opened teh gate and started out to the woods, the woods is like 3 miles long and we started to the front. We then heard another gun shot i looked at my dad with tears streaming down my face and he told me that it wasn't my fault he had filled in the hole and that he was sure the dogs were okay , but inside I knew something was wrong because usually Rocky & Romeo came right when I called for them.I still had Bear with me when he started whining again i had my ddad shine on the ground to see what he was whining about and there was a little amount of blood my heart raced and I looked at my dad he said "deer blood rossy" I sighed I knew it wasn't once again. Then my dad told me to call the dogs again so I did by this time it was almost 4:00 a.m , this time when I call I heard sort of grumbled whine sound , I screamed out again and heard it again. So i followed the sound with Bear and my dad. When i came to a huge tree I saw Rocky just laying there whining at something , Rocky was not hurt at all but when i looked more intently I saw him it was Romeo ! I looked at my dad I saw the tears run from his eyes but he tried hiding it so I turned around and walked slowly over to Romeo when I said his name his tail thumped softly of the ground , I ran to him and hugged him softily and then I looked at him closely i saw a huge bulet hole in his head now I dont know how he survived 2 or 3 hours with a bullet in his head  , I looked at my dad crying hard I handed Bear's leash to my dad and picked Romeo kindly , I talked to him the whole way back with Rocky following me exetremely closely but I didn't care at that point.

When I got to the house I cradled Romeo and cried on him , I called the one vet we have but they don't do home visits so I sat there with Romeo until about 5:30 holding him crying. Now I know this is horrible guys but don't bash me we had no car and the vet is over 25 miles away and believe we live out in the country they're not any taxies willing to bring dogs t oa vet.I looked at my dad and he knew what I needed to do he told me to bring Romeo outside so I did as he told me Rocky ran out after me and as soon as Romeo was layed on the ground Rocky layed his head on him and whined. My dad literally had to muzzle Rocky and pick his 120 lbs body up to move him and put him in the house becuase he was trying too attack my dad , I don't know why.So i walked back in the house and grabbed the gun and brought it outside to my dad I looked at him and then took it back away from him and told him that he was my dog and I should do it.So I did, I shot my dog but before i kissed him and everything to make him feel loved. Then we burried him,my sisters have not yet woken up so I don't know what is gonna happen yet. When I let Rocky outside about 1 hour ago he ran to where we burried him and now he won't budge not even for water and it is 76 degrees already it is now 7:38 so Romeo has been dead less then two hours, someone please help me let go !

Why does your dad allow hunting on property where your dogs have access?  Taking all of this in I feel sad about a dogs life that ended too early, about irresponsible hunters...did you or your dad try to find the hunter? Did you call the police?  I'm sorry for your loss, but I don't understand the inability to get to a vet.  All adults in this house and no car?
Does anyone work? How do u get there?  I don't mean to be harsh, but this didn't have to happen.  Like our children, our pets require more than just love and food, we have to watch out for them as they are after all, animals...I can see you loved Romeo and I am sympathetic with your grief, in his honor, please take better precaution with your other pets so his life isn't wasted.

Who the heck are the idiots your dad lets hunt on his land????  They don't know a deer from a dog but they fire anyway????????  IDIOTS.  Dad needs to post his land off limits, or it could be you lying on the ground with a bullet in your head next time one of those jerks goes out looking for a big rack to hang on the wall in the den.
Do everyone a favor and stick to loving on your dad's dogs, and don't bring another one into that chaotic house.
I'm sorry you lost your dog, and I am horrified at how it happened, but I saw it coming one way or another.  Please wait until you are an adult with income, a suitably fenced yard, and a quiet and loving household, before you add dogs, men or kids to your life.

Mattiesgirl. I am sorry for your loss. What a horrible thing to have happen at 2:30am.

I am inclined to agree your dad should put a stop to the hunting on his property. What if it were one of your siblings that decided to take a stroll in the middle of the night or someone elses child. Granted it is not a great example but you get the idea. Children, teenagers do strange things sometimes.

I also agree with Anne, wait until you are stable before you get another pet to love. Love the ones your dad has for now. Give them comfort as they are grieving over the loss of one of their members in the pack.

Your boy is gorgeous. Run free sweet one, your job here on here on earth was served well.

What a tragic story.  I am sorry for your loss.

Being a hunter myself, I can't imagine why they would be in the woods at 2:30 in the morning, unless they were jacklighting.  To my knowledge, that is illegal everywhere.  In my experience, people who hunt illegally are exactly the type to shoot at anything that moves.

I am so sorry that happened to your dog.  He is now at the Rainbow Bridge, happily playing and running around, waiting for the day that you two will meet again.  Take Care....

I dont want to sound like a jerk but
    1. Why the hell does your dad let people hunt on his property?
    2. *** are people doing out hunting at 2:30 in the morning. I have to say that the hunters are complete ********  for not even saying sorry. Don't you usually approach the animal after you shoot it? Anyone who kills a pet and doesn't apologize is a *Content removed* in my book. It happened to me.
    3. It sucks that he was only 1 1/2 yrs old.
    4. I am very sorry for your loss. I lost my dog a little over a month ago.
