heaven

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    heaven

The chukchi have a proverb. How you treat your dogs determines whether or not you go to heaven. If you have treated your dogs well, they will await  to pull your sled into heaven. For must of us, that's the Rainbow Bridge.

That's great!!  I love that!!  What part of the world are the chukchi from?
    • Gold Top Dog
The chukchi are an aboriginal people from the chokva region of far northeast Siberia, near the Bering Strait. For 1,000 years, the bred the chukchi dog to herd reindeer and pull sleds. Americans brought the chukchi back to Alaska and re-named it the Siberian Husky.

Thanks Ron I love that ! Although even though I know in my heart of hearts that I am good to my dogs, I don't think these two could pull me very far[sm=rofl.gif][sm=uhoh.gif]

Ron I didn't know they bred them to herd reindeer.  Could that be why my dogs assume the herding pose when they play together?

I just now so your post, huskymom. I apologize for not answering sooner. Chukchi means "reindeer people." They tended herds of reigndeer and harvested fish and seal from the Bering Sea. So, yes, there would be some herding instinct in them, especially, IMHO, in a purer line. When the chukchi dogs were brought to America, they were mainly used to pull sleds. With the chukchi, they did both herding and pulling. They were also bred to be friendly, living with the families, including children.

Resources were scarce, so the breed developed, through harsh trial and error, to have a special metabolism that gains the maximum benefit out of little food. And there metabolism and appetite is hinged on exercise or work. So, the more simple the food, the better their system handles it. I think that is why Shadow had an allergic reaction to Innova. It has so much stuff in it. The food I feed him that he does best on is just lamb meal, rice, fat, and supplements.

I just always thought it was because Crusher's best doggie friend is a BC.  But then the girls started doing it and they have never really played with Lucy.  My dogs are far from a pure line.  In fact only their mother is even a purebred Sibe.

You should start a husky thread in the breed specific section.  I would love to hear what you have to say about my breed.  I have read alot about how to take care of them and stuff but am always looking to expand my knowledge.  And I kind of feel funny talking about it in the Rainbow Bridge section.

    Okay.

Huskymom, I've started a thread on Siberian Huskies in the breed discussion under individual breeds.
