Agnes, the little brown dog

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Agnes, you deserved the best kind of love, just for being who you were.... which is why God put you into Tina's loving care.  You may not have been a flashy dog, but you put a sparkle in all our hearts.  Tina, thank you for sharing your love with her, and sharing her life with us.

You know, I just took a walk through the city park where hundreds of lilac bushes shared their perfume, and dogwood trees canopied the walkways in pink blossoms... among so many other sweet signs of life renewing itself. You may have only had her for a short time of her life, like the small window of time when lilacs bloom in May, but it was special and sweet.

I'm so sorry. Look for Celeigh and all our other loved ones at the Bridge, Agnes--they'll show you the coolest places to play.

Aww, I was very saddened to read this.

Run, run free, little brown dog.

Run free, Agnes. You were very lucky to find such a good human.

Oh nooo . . . . my heart is still heavy from the news about Talus, and now sweet little Agnes is also at the bridge!  Tina, I'm so sorry for your loss.  Even though you knew your time together would be short, I'm sure you felt you would never be "prepared" for goodbye.  You did for Agnes what I so admire but wouldn't be able to find the strength to do myself --- open your heart to her when you knew there would be sadness very soon after.  You are a true angel, and now you'll have a special angel watching over YOU.  Actually, you have a trio of angels with Shari, Bear and Agnes.  So many other wonderful dogs are keeping them company now, including my Tonka (who has been busy helping Talus find the prime dining spots at the bridge), but who is especially fond of older sweet girl dogs.  He'll look after her while she enjoys her new spiritual life, with no pain and easy breaths!

I'll keep you and Agnes in my heart and thoughts . . . I share your sadness and hope each day becomes a little easier for you.  Take care.

I promised I'd be with you every step of our journey together.

That's the most precious gift we can give our dogs.  Run free, little brown dog.

Absolutely.  It's the one promise that matters to them, and you fulfilled it.  Run free, little Agnes.  You were a lucky dog to get the mom you did.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.  Stacey, I'm sure she'd love the pizza because she loved to eat!

I don't consider myself an angel, I just did what was right when her previous human could not.  No dog that lived as long as she did deserved her last days at animal control.

I miss her little "arf, arf", but I'll bet she's at the Bridge doing a lot of "arfs" while she's chasing the rabbits around (but not catching them)!.
