REMEMBERING HUNTER AND BANDIT

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    REMEMBERING HUNTER AND BANDIT

five years ago tonight at 8:40 my hunter died of autoimmune hemolytic anemia and liver damage brought on by the heartworm preventin injection, proheart6. That very same day a beautiful border collie named bandit died of uncontrollable seizures in wisconsin. Hunter was 4, never sick a day in his life. Bandit was 7, never had a seizure in his life. Proheart changed this for both boys, Bandit's unending seizure started 10 hours after his ptoheart injection. Putting him under was the only way to stop it. But that only lasted as long as he was totally knocked out. 36 hours after his proheart injection, this beautiful boy was dead. Because he had never had a seizure the ER vet said he had to check for rabies, Sue told him Bandit was up to date, was kept inside, had not been bitten by anythinh. The vet insisted he had to do it. Poor Sue did not know that meant cutting her dog's head off and she was almost in shock to find her Bandit was to be mulitated, especialy knowing he did not have rabies, only that proheart injection.. Naturallt he did not have rabies and her regular vet said it was the phr. Sue and i met over the net and have stayed in touch all these years. We each remember each other's boys, so young, both killed by proheart, dying the same day. Am posting a picture of Bandit and also one of Hunter. It was one of the last ones taken of him. Honey is laying on the floor in front of him and you can see Kaycee's bushy tail

I HAVE TO WONDER, HOW LIKELY DO YOU THINK IT IS THAT OUT OF THE ENTIRE DOG POPULATION ON PROHEART6 HERE IN THE UNITED STATES, ONLY TWO DOGS DIE OF REACTION TO IT ON OCT. 16, 2003, ONE IN TEXAs, one in wisconsin and the only two people to lose their dog that day find each other?  not likely.  no telling how many died that day we never knew about.

Remembering with you ... I knew you then and before on The Poop messageboard and I **remember** Hunter as the wonderful boy he was.

I will certainly remember Hunter and Bandit tonight.

I'm thinking of Hunter and Bandit along with you tonight.  I've learned a lot over the summer about just what kind of disease that Proheart caused him.

Came to the thread late, but want you to know that I have these dogs in my heart, too.  I try to remind all my students to question, question, question, and act as their dogs' advocates with regard to health care.
