Good bye Miss Emmaline

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Good bye Miss Emmaline

Nobody could have rescued a better dog than you!

My daughter got lonely after her divorce and adopted Em from GA Basset Rescue 8 yrs ago. At the time Em was already 7, and we really never expected to have her around this long. She has been going down for about a year, and Jen expected her to go in her sleep some night, but it became clear this morning that Em needed some help getting there. Not an easy decision, but I believe, the right one. I did see her a couple weeks ago, so I know.

Somehow, Jen knew Em was the one she wanted instantly. She looked at them all online, picked her, and I arranged to make sure Em would be there on adoption day. We drove to Atlanta, saw her, and I suggested she might want to check out the others as well, but nope...it was Em from the beginning. And she has been a love for much longer than anyone could have hoped for.

Thanks for your devotion and companionship, Emmaline! Winnie and Sydney have met you now, and Grampa is giving you cookies!

Here she is several years ago...most of her hair had turned white since then...I am in tears just writing this.

Sierra, I don't know if you are still doing this, but if you could manage it, could you put Em's pic next to Winnie somehow?  She is the Basset on the first page.  I would love to send it to my daughter.  It's OK if you can't do that...just asking...

How wonderful that your daughter adopted an older dog.  It sounds like she got lots of love in her remaining years. Run free Emmaline!

    Run free sweet girl.

We just spread my grandfather's, and his last two dogs', ashes in a lake on Sunday -- so I know miss Emmaline got a warm welcome to the bridge and is getting lots of love and "puppy bones" from my grandfather.

Run free with your nose to the ground Smile Miss Emmaline.  Give lots of kisses to my bassetts Lacey and Buster at the bridge, gone a while now but never forgotten.  We share your sadness now Marty and Jen, but we will also rejoice with you when you find another rescue to share your life with.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Emmaline, Marty; I know it was difficult and this has been a difficult year for both you and your daughter, but it was the loving and right choice to help her make the transition.

Emmaline, you were a beautiful, good girl; you loved and were loved in return and now your work in this world is done.  Nighty, night pretty girl.

And yet another candle joinds the others gently glowing on top of the big screen tv in the front room. All of my grandkids know when G'ma lights one of these special candles they ech have a story and tonoght I told them About Miss Emmaline and how she was sad and lonley until her eyes met your daughters and they just knew they belonged together.   The kids listened so carefully and smiled over her picture.  Tonight there are 5 candles burning , all great old dogs who made an impact int he lives of others. Em's candle is magnolia scentedas befits a Southern Lady hound dog. It flickers gently adding that sweet southern scent taht brings to mind fireflies and moon lit nights in the summer in the South. MY candle holders are all little glass votive holders that we painted with a rainbow in stain glass paint and as the lights flicker they throw rainbow sparkles all over the room.  My grandkids know there is majic in the sparkles, that they are bits and pieces of all of the happiness and the dreams sahred between the dog and it's family. They firnly believe this is how the rainbows after our Southern Storms show up so brightly and with such deep color because each dog who has corssed left some sparkel behind to remind their family how much the loved them and how there is so much more waiting for them when you all get back together again.  IT helps my 5 grandkids accept that nothing is forever here on earth, and assures them that the thunder is only the big dogs running off the porch barking and baying at comet varmits and cestrial bunnies....

Our heart to you and to your daughter and thank s to both of your for the extra sparkles that Miss Emmaline has left to color the next rainbows...

Run free, sweet girl!  What a lucky girl you were to share your life with a wonderful human.  I know you'll be joining other great hounds who have crossed before you.
