Kyrie Indiana, my princess

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Kyrie Indiana, my princess

I lost my husky mix girl in Sept 2005, she went down hill suddenly , I took her to the vet right after labor day with an unknown illness, she was lethargic, anemic, not her usual happy self!! even at 9yrs old she was always excited to see people!! after about two weeks of, ultrasounds, bloodtest, and a diagnosis of Hemangiosarcoma , on Sept 18 2005 we made the heartbreaking decision to send her to the bridge before she could experience anymore pain, my girl was ready to go, she was not herself she was so sad, I don't regret what we did I will miss her dearly forever... Hemangiosarcoma is a fast progressing cancer that usually doesnt show any signs until it is too late, chemo may add only a few more months, I opted out of that option I didnt want to add months of pain to her life, knowing that in the long run it would eventually take her. I wanted her to go in peace.[sm=angel.gif]

I understand your pain of having to make such a heartbreaking decision when a cherished dog is so ill.  We faced the same thing last January when our dog (who was nearly 10) started to decline very rapidly.  It's a pain that never goes away -- I still struggle with it almost 15 months later.

Kyrie Indiana had a beautiful name, and I'm sure she was a pretty girl.  Take comfort in the imagery of her romping happily at the Bridge, waiting for the day when you'll be together again.

Having her go in peace is the absolute best thing you could have ever done.  I always had a fear of it before -- especially when we found out our girl was sick back in 2005.  She didn't show any signs of suffering and I couldn't imagine having to make that decision.  She left us when she was ready, while I was holding her in my lap.  That was almost 6 months after her diagnosis.

When I saw my parents' dog, Brownie, starting to suffer -  that's when I realized at what time that decision should be made and what a gift you are giving your furry baby.  I agree with Tracy, you should take comfort in knowing she's running around The Bridge with lots of friends until you're together again one day.

You made such a courageous and loving decision in her interest in the face of such a sudden onset. I know she loved you all the more for loving her enough to let her go before the pain got worse.

Be at peace, Kyrie Indiana!  You were cherished and still are!

I'm so sorry but it sounds like you made the right decision and gave her everything you could.   Run free[sm=angel.gif]

I am always touched by the way these losses still affect us years afterward.  It's not "only a dog" to us. It's a dear, sweet, lost friend.
