Ursa left for rainbow bridge to be with Oshota

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Ursa left for rainbow bridge to be with Oshota

On the 24th of March, a saturday, at 5:36 pm we let Ursa, our McNab/Germanshepherd go to rainbow bridge. Ursa would have been 15 on the 24th of April. Ursa came into my life at the very young age of 9 days on May 2 1992. The owner was going to shoot her the next day with his 22. At 6 she contracted Lymes disease and a following shot of cortisone caused Lupus to flare up. She lost the sight in one eye to it. At 8 she developed Cushing's disease and in one season she went from jet black to mostly white. I never thought she would make it past 10. In the last few weeks of her life she seemed to have developed congestive heart failure. We did not want her to suffer any pain or discomfort and she could hardly walk 6 feet without getting tired and having to stop for breath. Oshota ,our Golden/Rottweiller/Irishwolfhound, we let go last June 24th , also a Saturday, to complications of sponylosis. She went lame suddenly and after 23 days became parylized from the lower back down. She was 13 1/2. I dug a 6 foot deep grave for Ursa and planted a cork screw willow over her. Now we only have one dog, Chelsea. Ursa had a big presence in the house and now it is so quiet. Here is a picture of Oshota, Ursa and Chelsea. This was 2 years ago when Oshota was 11 and Ursa was 13, Chelsea was 4, she is 6 now. Even though I thought we would lose Ursa a long time ago, It does not make it any easier to know that Ursa lived far longer than anyone could have hoped for, she was my eveready dog. We miss Ursa and Oshota very much. I sent Ursa off with 4 tennis balls, a racket ball, her treats, food, her bowl and collar, and a very big bottle of water, the lupus made her thirsty. I lined her casket with her blanket.

It is a testament to your love and exceptional care that she lived so long with those difficult ailments. That's a long time for a dog to live even with perfect health, you must have done so many wonderful things for her to get her through all that. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure your girls are playing pain free at the Bridge now.

My thoughts exactly -- and like you I always send them with their favorite stuff, altho she's not thirsty any more!!  The River of Life flows under Rainbow Bridge and it has the best water anywhere!!  But oh boy, those balls are in constant play!  A racquet ball?  WOW -- mega bounce!!

Soon another will find it's way to you just at the time you need them and they need you most.  And when Ursa and Oshota tell everbuddy up there that THEY had the best humans ... everbuddy will have to listen!!  You must be awesome caretakers!

I'm so sorry for your loss of Ursa.  She clearly was the recipient of dedicated and devoted loving care to have lived so long, especially with the effects of some serious health crises.  Now that she's an angel, she can spread all the extra love she got from you when she visits the dogs still on earth who don't have such wonderful human families.  I hope it's a comfort to you that she has a familiar face already at the Bridge to show her around as she begins this new phase of her life.  And I'm sure she'll watch over you as you adjust to life without her physical presence.  Losing a beloved companion is heartbreaking, I know all too well.  My heart goes out to you. Take care.

I am so sorry for your loss - it's quite evident how devote you were to your dogs and they will certainly be waiting to greet you at the Bridge.  Be gentle with yourself now, you're in our thoughts.

I'm so very sorry for your loss of Ursa.... and for your loss last year of Oshota.  From reading your post, they were lucky to have you in their lives.  And what long lives they had (although it's never long enough).
