Goodbye Clara!

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Goodbye Clara!

I live in St. Louis and at our Zoo today they had to put down the 52 year old elephant, Clara.  She had arthritis real bad and they said the pain meds were no longer working so sometime after midnight they said goodbye to her...we in St. Louis are real sad.

They said it will take 2 years to form another heirarchy (sp) to determine an alpha elephant and the ones now will be lost without her for sometime...

So Goodbye Clara - you will definitely be missed, but will be a formidable sight at the Rainbow Bridge!  I would love to see you tromping over that bridge to be welcomed by all!  No more pain...what a blessing!

Run free Clara!  Please be patient with our guys over there - can't say any of them ever got to close to an elephant before but give them time - they will love you like St Louis did!

Roam Free Clara; you won't be stopped by a fence anymore. [sm=angel.gif]

I get this mental image of her standing in the River of Life under the Bridge making her own little showers of healing and love!!  Just IMAGINE all the people and friends she will greet in time to come -- as so many come over the Bridge and point and say 'That's CLARA!!!!"

They said her arthritis was so bad that all meds they tried did not work...so they let her go...I, too, can see her bounding (if elephants bound!) over the bridge with no pain and a light in her eyes again...but her pack here sure does miss her!  The news said they are really lost and mourning her - she was the leader for many many years!

Female elephants in the wild stay in their herds their whole lives. I imagine the herds that are artificially formed become just as important to the elephants. I am sure they feel like they've lost their matriarch. Maybe Clara will sound a trumpet for all the new souls that cross the Bridge, what a majestic fanfare!

I can picture Bob the intrepid Meezer watching Clara crossing the Bridge with her big blue eyes wide in awe.

    Be free, Miss Clara  [sm=angel.gif]
