Rest peacefully sweet Jasmine.

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Rest peacefully sweet Jasmine.

In March, an all black pit bull mix puppy came into the shelter where I work.  She was 4-5 months old and had two cherry eyes.  She ended up going into a cage with another pitty girl who was soon adopted.  Jasmine sat and waited for her perfect person to come for her.  Meanwhile she was loved by the volunteers and staff.  She went on outings with volunteers for cage breaks and overnight visits just to get her out of the shelter environment for a bit.

She was finally adopted about three weeks ago and everyone was thrilled.  Jasmine was finally going home after spending much of her short life in the shelter.  She had started acting out in the shelter mouthing people and being really rough with other dogs.  We were happy that someone was taking her and willing to work with her.

Unfortunately for Jasmine, the adopter's wife decided she was not happy with Jasmine.  She said that Jasmine was too much and had to be returned to the shelter.

We retested her and just could not place her up for adoption due to her deteriorating behavior.  Jasmine was let go today peacefully and had one of her favorite volunteers there to help her pass.

So, rest peacefully Miss Jasmine.  Now you can swim in all the pools you want and have all the tennis balls you need.

    Well said Georgeann.

Jasmine grew up in the shelter. Normally puppies are adopted quickly but because of her look she was passed by. I fed her most evenings and every time she sat in the kennel looking at me with her sad eyes as I placed the food bowl down.

She loved picking up everything with her month, she was really sneaky about it too. Sometimes I had to help a volunteer get her to drop a drain cover or toy she grabbed on her way out for a walk. Or sometimes she tried to bring things into the building

Silly Jasmine, we will miss you!

Run free, Jasmine.  I'm sorry you got let down by some of the humans you encountered in your short life.  I'm so glad she did know the love of the shelter employees and volunteers.  Hugs to all of you who cared about her.

Play free, sweet Jasmine!  I KNOW that there's a GSD mix at the Bridge who would adore to play ball with you.  She's got silly ears like yours so you should be able to find her easily.  Maybe you could show her how to fit more than one ball in her mouf.  She never could do that.

Play free Jasmine, lots of furr babies over the bridge already know you are there and will gladly play with you.

so sad - I am so grateful for all of you who work in the shelters and give sweet pups like this some love

Oh, that just breaks my heart.  What a sweet looking girl!  I've heard of similar situations at our local shelter - one just recently was a dog that Ruby played with in playgroup.  She was returned at least once, and after too much time in the shelter, her behavior worsened, and I guess they felt her chances at a successful adoption were unlikely.  Broken Heart

I'd like to think that dogs like Jasmine have a really special place at the Bridge where they get extra doses of all the good things they didn't get enough of on earth.  Like Karen said, I'm so thankful for shelter staff and volunteers who take these dogs under their wings and show them compassion and affection so that's what they know right before they cross.

So sad.  Thankfully, she felt love and compassion from those at the shelter.

    Run Free Jasmine.
