Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Two years ago today Roscoe went to the rainbow bridge. I miss him so much. He was my heart dog. It's hard to believe he's been gone two full years now. Some days it feels like a lifetime, some days it feels like no time at all. I'm really glad to have my sweet T-Bone and Royce to help me feel better today, and of course you guys who understand how hard it is. At night to settle down I used to wind up a music box and play Amazing Grace. He would always settle right away. I cry when I hear it now.

Roscoe, I love you my little Pistolero. Say hello to Saint Francis for me, pretty boy. I'll never forget you here. I hope you're playing with lots of little crabs on the beach there now.

(((((hugs)))))  I remember how hard it was for you to let him go.   These heart dogs steal our hearts and even when they're gone our hearts never are the same.  The more dogs you love the bigger your heart becomes.

Jackie's right -- and it's true that some of them leave a bigger hole than others.  Tink and Luna both are working overtime right now to love on Mom -- we ALL miss Billy.  His favorite song was The Romanics "What I Like About You".  he **loved** that song

But your life has changed in such positive ways since -- and I'm sure he's looking down on you with a whole lot of pride!

Jackie, Callie (((HUGS))) Thank you. Sometimes I think back on how I thought the early symptoms (chasing and growling/fixating on shadows, for example) were just Roscoe being a silly dog, and I feel like an ignorant jackass. Other times I think I just didn't have experience with it and there's no way I could have known what that was foreshadowing.

I hope Roscoe and Billy have met at the bridge.

Ohhh, I have NO doubt that Roscoe and Billy (and Foxy, Muffin, Kee Shu, Socks, et al.) have met.

Foxy was the computer whiz (no joke -- I found "proof" more than once that he had been AT THE COMPUTER with typing on the screen -- but who can read dog-ese??) and I know they inventory everbuddy to see who all knows whom and who has JUST arrived!

I often think that for *many* dogs the very first thing they think when they come over Rainbow Bridge is "I feel **better**!!  I don't HURT any more!* or "I feel OK --- not mad any more!"  I'm sure sometimes those first moments of the lack of whatever the besetting problem was is huge for a lot of our friends.

Roscoe sure was a handsome boy.  He's got some very special friends where he is now while he watches over you and waits.
