Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

My colleague and friend, Dee Ganley, has lost her beloved Australian Shepherd, Dazzle, to cancer.  Miss Dazzle outlived her prognosis, probably to stay as long as she could with her most fascinating and loving human, who gave her a life that most dogs only dream of.  It was Sioux's distinct honor to stand in for Dazzle at the scent games workshop that Dee did for us here at Paws for Praise, but it was bittersweet because we knew the reason for Miss Dazzle not being there.  I had the distinct pleasure of watching Dee and Dazzle together, however, at Sioux's first scent games workshop in Maine, and they personified the words team, partners, respect, and FUN.  This was a well loved dog, and one who deserves to be included with our idog dogs at the Bridge.  Trust me, she could teach them all a thing or two:-)  RIP sweet girl.

Dazzle -- enjoy yourself at the Bridge.  But if you see a little buffy cocker sitting there with a tennis ball in his mouth - you can *invite* him to run, but I'm gonna betcha he won't.  At least until that tennis ball falls out of his mouth and rolls down the hill -- THEN he'll run after it.

Boy -- it's been a busy time at the Bridge lately, hasn't it?

My condolences to Dazzle's family (and to you, Anne) for the loss of a such a loved dog.  I just love that name . . . it puts an image in my mind of a doggy angel with a really special "glow."  I'm sure you're all feeling like a light has gone out with her absence now.

Run free, Dazzle.  You'll have lots of new friends at the Bridge who will tell you about their special people who miss them very much!
