The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    I'm sorry for Romeo. I  can't believe  you shot your own dog. What a horrible thing for a 17 year old to do. Where do you live?

    I'm so sorry you had to shoot your dog. I too live in the country, and if I didn't have a working car I'd be in a similiar situation. Not all that hunt regard KEEP OUT signs. My neighbors do not and every fall I wait to hear of another dog shot 'on accident'. It's not your fault it happened hon and you did an extremely adult thing in an even more extremely difficult time. It's hard still being a 'kid' and having to do adult things. It's hard not having a stable place. That is one thing I agree with, until you are grown and have created your own stable place I wouldn't raise another dog. They like kids need stability.
    You loved your dog, and your dog loved you. Thanks for posting the picture of Romeo.

    I'm sorry, I know how you feel.  It will take a while to get over your loss.  My neighbors had their first dog shot by a hateful member of my distant family over a year ago and we still cry when we talk about it.  One of my dogs was shot in the head and my husband thought he would have to shoot him until I cried enough that he told me to do what I had to do, so I took him to the vet 45 minutes away and paid $500 but I still have him. I don't know what I would have done without him, it was the most pitiful thing ever.  He sat in my lap while I was driving to the vet (he's about 75 pounds) and I didn't have the heart to tell him to move because he cuddled me and whined like he knew I could help him.  The man that shot him actually came to my house and told my husband he did it because my dog killed his turkey, so it was completely legal for him to do it.  It's not fair how the law is. It was the same with my neighbors, they couldn't prove who did it and even if they could all anyone has to do is claim the dog was chasing wildlife and it would be perfectly O.K.  It stinks!
    Oh and congratulations on your new puppy.
