Tragedy in the news... R.I.P Smokey.

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Tragedy in the news... R.I.P Smokey.

I saw [linkhttp://www.nbc5.com/news/11056636/detail.html?dl=headlineclick]this story[/link] on my local news today.  That is truly heartbreaking and horrible!  Something must be done about this, especially since this is not the only incident where an innocent animal died due to shorted electrical wires in the pavement.  Poor Smokey, may he run free.  I know my Misty is at the bridge greeting him.  <333  [sm=angel.gif]

How sad!  I can't even imagine.  Run free baby boy. [sm=angel.gif]

This had to be so devastating for them.

Be at peace, Smokey, remember how much you were loved.

It has happened several times in Boston in recent years, and the electric company has been trying to reduce the danger, but never walk your dogs in areas where there are grates.  I would rather transport my dog to the park in a vehicle than walk the sidewalks.

Is that a "back east" thing?  Having electrical wires so close to the surface of a sidewalk?  I don't think I've ever heard of it before.  How do people keep from getting electrocuted?

I'd imagine that because people wear shoes, the rubber of the soles and leather/cloth deflects any electricity, as rubber is an insulator, and the latter two do not transfer electricity as readily.

With dogs, it's nothing but bare flesh, and the current is conducted through the blood stream, hence electrocution.
